this is shocking news. He was maybe one of the only media members who was fair and balanced.....besides everyone on fox news.

Tim Russert made the MSNBC political coverage VERY good to watch. Olbermann and Mathews do fine, but when you really wanted to know what shit was going on, and no bloviating, you went to Russert.
That dude was THE guy to hear talk about politics.

Here's a comment from Brent Bozell of the Media Research Center. Many people consider this group a right-wing media watchdog:

Whenever I’ve been asked to give examples of a fair, balanced and honest journalist, Tim Russert’s name was the first name that came to mind. This was a view shared by everyone and the ultimate testimony to his professionalism. As a moderator he was in a league of his own, always knowing when to speak and when to let his guests do the talking. As an individual he was an absolute class act, and always a gentleman. The world of journalism is vastly diminished today.

Hoob.

I'll never forget the simplicity of the white board on election night 2000. CNN's fancy digital stuff is cool and whatnot, but Russert really showed he knew his shit that night.

I thought he was a typical healthy Hollywood type, but after reading his bio he used to be wheels off. Guess it caught up to him. He was funny for a liberal bastard.

He was at his best in the 70's. In the 80's, he became too cutesy Seinfeld-ian. Then around '90, he became a curmudgeonly, outsider social commentator and he was brilliant again. He took that part too far by the end, and was hit-and-miss these last few years, but he's still one of the top 5 comics of all time.

In my circle of friends, George's work was overshadowed in the 70s by Richard Pryor's material.

On the subject of Tim Russert, Fox News has an article about how TV Guide snubbed him, putting Denise Richards on the cover and barely mentioning him dying.

TV guide was a staple in the gam house when I was young. I haven't looked at in 30 years. Sounds like I haven't missed much.

omg i'm old. :dep:

Her work in Wild Things > anything Russert ever did.

That's some Gammian intelligence there.

I was aware of the long waiting list for kids to be on the show, but I didn't know that WGN stopped running the show in 2001.

Do you think there will be a funeral where Mary Tyler Moore starts laughing like she did when Chuckles the Clown bit the dust?
