this is shocking news. He was maybe one of the only media members who was fair and balanced.....besides everyone on fox news.

Tim Russert made the MSNBC political coverage VERY good to watch. Olbermann and Mathews do fine, but when you really wanted to know what shit was going on, and no bloviating, you went to Russert.
That dude was THE guy to hear talk about politics.

I thought he was a typical healthy Hollywood type, but after reading his bio he used to be wheels off. Guess it caught up to him. He was funny for a liberal bastard.

He was at his best in the 70's. In the 80's, he became too cutesy Seinfeld-ian. Then around '90, he became a curmudgeonly, outsider social commentator and he was brilliant again. He took that part too far by the end, and was hit-and-miss these last few years, but he's still one of the top 5 comics of all time.

I've sat through afair amount of his stuff and he just doesn't do it for me.

In my circle of friends, George's work was overshadowed in the 70s by Richard Pryor's material.

On the subject of Tim Russert, Fox News has an article about how TV Guide snubbed him, putting Denise Richards on the cover and barely mentioning him dying.
