Consumer Reports yesterday announced the release of new ratings of computer tech support ratings for both laptops and desktop, and while the full details are restricted to subscribers, CNET reveals that Apple dominated the rankings. Not only did Apple top both the overall laptop and desktop categories, but also took top honors in every single sub-category, including problem resolution, phone wait times, phone staff performance, and online support.

For laptop computers, Apple scored 86 out of a possible 100. That's 23 points above its nearest competitor, Lenovo, which scored a 63. In fact, Apple scored the highest in each of the Consumer Reports categories.
Apple saw even better performance in its desktop computers, grabbing a score of 87 and easily out-distancing second-place Dell, which earned a score of only 55. Also of note is Acer, which had by far the lowest tech support scores in the ratings even as it has surged past Apple in U.S. market share by riding the wave of netbook popularity in recent years.

Apple has traditionally performed very well in Consumer Reports' surveys, and last year the company's notebooks even sweeped the magazine's recommendations.

At my work, we have vowed that never again will we take the advice of fanbois when buying computers. It's one of the worst mistakes we have ever made.

Sure it does. You pay more for it. But it works better. And their tech support is the best.

I told the truth on the part about paying more for it.

I've done support for PC and Apple users. Apple users are the absolute dumbest computer users out there.

I thought this was pretty cool, plug in the serial number to your Mac and it will give you information about the computer.

Do any other computer companies have this type of thing?

rockme, is this some genius ironic attempt to make the world hate apple? Cuz as an enthusiastic lifetime user of their computers and products, you shilling for them makes me kinda wanna get a Dell, dude.

If you like the shit, great. Go ahead and like it. But shut the fuck up about it. If any part of you is trying to convince people that you're right about apple, then you're just a middle-aged prepubescent fanboy douchebag. I know that was contradictory. Thats whats so sad about it.

nah, fuck a buncha ipad, kindel, tablet bullshit. I'm gonna be shocked if there's really a market for this kinda thing, beyond the rockme's of the world that just want the same "new and different" technology packaged differently.

As houses get "smarter" I can see the need/convenience for a home remote control. Something that controls lights, security, home entertainment, etc. That's where I can really see something like the iPad grab a hold. I don't think there is a big market right now though.

As far as the iPad as a media consuming device... I just don't see it living past a novelty stage. No one is going to sit on their couch with this in their lap and watch a 2 hour movie. Any serious gamer wanting to play while they are in their house is going to get on their console (although Apple's version of Xbox Live will help there). As far as the subscription based newspapers, mags, comics, etc... forget it. People are NOT going to pay for that. As an book reader... I don't know. A computer can do a lot of fancy shit with page turn animations and such to trick up reading, but if you've ever seen an e-ink screen then it's hard not to choose that over a backlit lcd screen. It's a lot more comfortable on the eyes and it's definitely less distracting (and who wants to be distracted while reading a book?) Not to mention the battery life on an ebook reader is ridiculously long.

Apple is counting on developers to save the day here. It may happen but I have serious doubts about it.

if it gets apps that make it feasible as a simplistic laptop alternative, I might see it working out. Thats the only scenario where i'd consider one.

there has to be a killer app that would only make sense on the iPad, and not on the iPhone as well. Then, yep, I agree, it'd write it's own ticket.
Otherwise, it's a huge itouch.

is that what they're selling for? I have to ask because you get your facts wrong kinda consistently on this topic.

I got it too, but it was queer as hell. So to avoid this gay swell I decided to tell you all of my memories of cheesy 70s sitcoms theme songs but apparently it fell on unappreciative ears so it's the last memory of the like I'll tell. Bitch.
