You realize *most* people have to be at work to get paid, right? I answer my work related e-mail while I'm at work. I don't get a lot of personal e-mails, so checking it from the laptop once a day wasn't a big deal.

:babyarm: I can get my personal email on my phone, but it's a pain in the ass to read the small screen. If I need to reply, they can wait til I get to a PC. It's good if you're a sales or marketing douche. The rest of us, not so much.

It's fucking awesome.

Well when I typed that, I think I was joking around, but I wound up getting one a couple of months ago. I gotta be honest. A little overrated. I'm having a hard time finding useful apps. Though playing Ms. Pacman and Words is pretty cool.

Do you not use it for email? I no longer have to stay tethered to my desk to respond to customers. I can be on the course or at the bar and I'm TCB and no ones the wiser.

:babyarm: It's a rare day when I actually log in to my accounts from a pc. 99% of my personal emailing has been by phone for about 7 years.

iphone will suck until Apple decides to partner with a real cell provider.

Palm is dying. They've been hemorrhaging money since late last year, and yesterday's woeful earnings announcement sealed its fate. It didn't have to be this way. But it's been coming for a long time.

I believe I read similar stories about Apple back on 01.

That's a really odd article for a tech blog to write. Palm is far from dead, Elevation Partners have their back. I have faith!

(just please, Palm, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get some decent advertising!)

That article is right about getting an SDK as soon as possible to get the geeks out there stirred up about it.
Considering they had an edge on both Android and Apple (using already known items like HTML, Javascript, and CSS vs having to learn Objective C [fuck a bunch of objective C] for the iPhone, or Java for Android) , it's almost criminally negligent of them to not have had an SDK ready to go asap.

Also, you *have* to have a Mac to even consider coding for the iPhone. Stupid stupid stupid.

Yeah, notice nowhere do they say to stop buying palm products. Like I said, Giz's article was very strange for a tech blog. And by strange, I mean extremely biased as Giz is want to be.

Boy Genius Report claims that AT&T has instituted a block on all employee vacations for the month of June, signaling a possible iPhone release sometime during the month. In the past, such policies have been reliable indicators of iPhone launches.

Same story as last year and the year before, but we've confirmed with multiple AT&T sources that the carrier has now put a block on employees taking vacations in June. The only time AT&T does a straight block like this is for iPhone launches.
Apple has typically launched its new iPhone models in June of each year, although the iPhone 3G did not launch until July 11th, 2008, just inside the window predicted by AT&T's vacation block that year.

that's def bullsh.

i've seen several stories in the last week of people predicting the next gen iphone in june. Ya think? The phone has been announced in june the last 3 years in a row. Apple has already released osx 4.0. It doesn't take a genius, boy or not, to predict the new hardware.

I read somewhere that Ford was going to release a 2011 version of their F-150 late this year. If I remember correctly they did the same thing last year.

No to be outdone, Chevy was going to follow suit and release new models for 2011.

I'm no expert but I think manufacturers do this every year.

No, that is not the new hardware. The new phone will look the same as the other three models. Jobs will be dead before the iPhone will have a flat back.

Hmm... engadget is now saying they're pretty sure that's the new hardware. If it is, Apple needs to fire their designers. It doesn't look better than the old model.

This may be good news for HTC though. Perhaps they can counter sue Apple for stealing their design, cos that phone really looks like it came off the HTC assembly line (not that that's a bad thing)

wow.

After a precipitous decline in Palm's business and several weeks of speculation, HP announced today that they're acquiring the beleaguered phone company for $1.2 billion. CEO Jon Rubinstein will remain with the company.

The announcement comes as a bit of a surprise, after rumors had linked everyone from HTC to Lenovo as possible suitors. For Palm, it's the lifeboat they've desperately needed ever since their stock price was targeted at zero earlier this year. For HP, it's an opportunity to become an instant player in the smartphone category.
