Bought a short-sale house and have been working on it for the past three weeks. Finally moving in tomorrow. Had to get new carpet (unsure of how many homicides or suicides were committed on there, the stains on the old carpet would need to be tested for DNA) and have painted nearly every surface in the house.

The previous owners made some interesting decisions, for sure. They were fans of the accent wall. One giant dark red wall in the master bedroom. One puke green in another bedroom. And yet another military green in the living room. All gone now.

Had to put new flooring down in the utility room. Peel-and-stick tile is your friend. A small office has no floor at all. Just bare concrete. Cheap-ass-laminate is your friend.

They were also partiers it would seem. There is a concrete enclosure off the patio with both a water and gas line. I wonder how many of their key parties featured the hot tub that must have been there. So we get to deck over it. Fun. Upside is the gas line still works so I can hook up a natural gas grill. Peasants use propane. Opulence. I has it.

Will post some before and afters if they turn out dramatic.

Did you think about varnishing over the concrete like some of them fancy folks do these days?

Considered it, but would probably need to do some sort of priming or somesuch anyway. It's pretty scuffed up/paint spattered. I can do laminate for less than a dollar a square foot. Really small room so it shouldn't be too frustrating. Granted, painting closets was far more difficult than painting full rooms.

I did have to throw out a bunch of Rogaine bottles. And there were posters of Rick Nielsen on the ceilings of all the bedrooms.

There was a tree growing into the side of the house we had to have cut down today. I can no longer be called a tree-hugger.

Who's the shithead who planted that thing so close to the house in the first place?

I assume the same hot-tubber who put a concrete bunker next to it. House was built in 78, imagine it was planted then.

Seemed like a good idea 30 years ago when it was 3 inches in diameter.

No. I also dug up three shrubs and killed a bunch of ivy/ground cover. I'm like Stalin when it comes to plants.

By simply placing a piece of statuary art atop the remnants of God's butchered creation, such as a faux concrete pineapple from an area Hobby Lobby, you can transform an ordinary tree stump into the focal point of your backyard. Voila.

Got the parents coming over for a visit this weekend. They've been hounding me about it for a while. They are tough to entertain as they are turbo Baptists plus they tend to be embarrassing in restaurants . Gonna put the dad to work helping me install some ceiling fans where currently recessed lighting exists. That should curb his visiting bug til the holidays.

Last weekend I resodded a lot of the front yard that died last summer. It sucked balls.
