I never bothered to listen to the words beyond the title or the bridge. Sounds dumb.

I laid a red rose on your front porch
And I wrote 'I Love You' on a note
I rang the doorbell and turned to go
Baby when the curtains moved
I couldn't believe the view

I saw the light in your window tonight
I saw two shadows holding each other tight
I know the truth when I look in your eyes
I saw the light in your window tonight

So take your cheating hands off my red dress
'Cause I ain't wearing this thing for you
I see you clearly now, and your lies too
They say that love is blind
Well, baby, not this time

I saw the light in your window tonight
I saw two shadows holding each other tight
I know the truth when I look in your eyes
I saw the light in your window tonight

Why, baby, why
Should I listen to ya
Cry, baby, cry
Now I'm walking out the door

They say that love is blind
Well, baby, not this time

I know the truth when I look in your eyes
I saw the light in your window tonight

Sometimes I don't know where
This dirty road is taking me
Sometimes I can't even see the reason why
I guess I keep a-gamblin'
Lots of booze and lots of ramblin'
It's easier than just waitin' around to die

One time, friends, I had a ma
I even had a pa
He beat her with a belt once 'cause she cried
She told him to take care of me
Headed down to Tennessee
It's easier than just waitin' around to die

I came of age and I found a girl
In a Tuscaloosa bar
She cleaned me out and hit in on the sly
I tried to kill the pain, bought some wine
And hopped a train
Seemed easier than just waitin' around to die

A friend said he knew
Where some easy money was
We robbed a man, and brother did we fly
The posse caught up with me
And drug me back to Muskogee
It's two long years I've been waitin' around to die

Now I'm out of prison
I got me a friend at last
He don't drink or steal or cheat or lie
His name's Codine
He's the nicest thing I've seen
Together we're gonna wait around and die
Together we're gonna wait around and die

We took a vow in summertime
Now we find ourselves in late December
I believe that New Year's Eve
Will be the perfect time
For their great surrender
But they don't remember

Anger wants a voice
Voices wanna sing
Singers harmonize
Till they can't hear anything
Thought that I was free
From all that questioning
But every time a problem ends
Another one begins

And the stone walls of Harmony Hall bear witness
Anybody with a worried mind can never forgive the sight
Of wicked snakes inside a place you thought was dignified
I don't wanna live like this, but I don't wanna die
(Ooh ooh ooh ooh)
I don't wanna live like this, but I don't wanna die

Within the halls of power lies
A nervous heart that beats
Like a Young Pretender's
Beneath these velvet gloves I hide
The shameful crooked hands
Of a money lender
'Cause I still remember

Anger wants a voice
Voices wanna sing
Singers harmonize
Till they can't hear anything
Thought that I was free
From all that questioning
But every time a problem ends
Another one begins

And the stone walls of Harmony Hall bear witness
Anybody with a worried mind can never forgive the sight
Of wicked snakes inside a place you thought was dignified
I don't wanna live like this, but I don't wanna die

The warmth of your love
Is like the warmth of the sun
And this will be our year
Took a long time to come

Don't let go of my hand
Now darkness has gone
And this will be our year
Took a long time to come

And I won't forget
The way you held me up when I was down
And I won't forget the way you said,
"Darling I love you"
You gave me faith to go on
Now we're there and we've only just begun
This will be our year
Took a long time to come

The warmth of your smile
Smile for me, little one
And this will be our year
Took a long time to come

You don't have to worry
All your worried days are gone
This will be our year
Took a long time to come

And I won't forget
The way you held me up when I was down
And I won't forget the way you said,
"Darling I love you"
You gave me faith to go on
Now we're there and we've only just begun
And this will be our year
Took a long time to come

Yeah we only just begun
Yeah this will be our year
Took a long time to come

One and one were having some fun *
Two and Two, I took off my shoes *
Three and Three, she undressed me *
Four and Four, we fucked on the floor *
Five and Five, I put up her thighs *
Six and Six, the bitch sucked my dick *
Seven and Seven, we went to heaven *
Eight and Eight, she masturbated *
Nine and Nine, she licked my ass *
Ten and Ten, the bitch did it again *

Turn around
Look at what you see
In her face
The mirror of your dreams

Make believe I'm everywhere
Given in the light
Written on the pages
Is the answer to a never ending story
Ah

Reach the stars
Fly a fantasy
Dream a dream
And what you see will be

Rhymes that keep their secrets
Will unfold behind the clouds
And there upon a rainbow
Is the answer to a never ending story

God sent His son, they called Him, Jesus
He came to love, heal and forgive
He lived and died to buy my pardon
An empty grave is there to prove my Savior lives.

Because He lives, I can face tomorrow
Because He lives, all fear is gone
Because I know He holds the future
And life is worth the living
Just because He lives.

I love those old school church hymns. I go to a Methodist church now because I have some issues with my Southern Baptist upbringing, but the Baptists really did a nice job compiling their hymnal. Methodist churches don't really sing these old songs. In fact, when I went through a church visiting stage a couple of years ago none of the churches really sang these old tunes anymore. Even the Baptists were just putting hokey choruses up on a screen that I wasn't familiar with. It's hard to fake sing along to the new fangled stuff. Anyhoo, Because He Lives is one of the good songs from my memory, and interestingly not one that comes naturally to singing in female opera voice.

There is beyond the azure blue
A god concealed from human sight
He tinted skies a heavenly hue
And framed the world with his great might

There is a god (there is a god)
He is alive (he is alive)
In him we live (in him we live)
And we survive (and we survive)

From dust our god (from dust our god)
Created man (created man)
He is our god (he is our god)
The great I am (the great I aaaaaaammmmm)

Other than going to a Methodist church now, it's insane how much this post mirrors my thoughts. Also, I've been walking around singing it in female opera voice. It's how my stepmom sings. Drives the kids nuts.

My VERY catholic in-laws know I'm atheist. Most of them think I'm secretly the devil but one of my brother-in-laws made me honorary godfather to my niece.

My wife doesn't go to church but I never discouraged it. I also never discouraged our daughter going but made it clear that to the wife that if she attended church I would debrief her after every session.

Right now I could really go for one of those classic Goucho posts where he imagines the scene of gam debriefing gammita.

I sang this in the car while driving to work this morning and enjoyed it. Haven't thought of it in years. Thanks, Somey.

For the fifth damn day in a row:

I'm going home
And when I want to go home, I'm going mobile
Well I'm gonna find a home on wheels, see how it feels,
Goin' mobile
Keep me moving

I can pull up by the curb,
I can make it on the road,
Goin' mobile
I can stop in any street
And talk with people that we meet
Goin' mobile
Keep me moving, mmm

Out in the woods
Or in the city
It's all the same to me
When I'm driving free
The world's my home
When I'm mobile, ey woo, beep beep

Play the tape machine
Make the toast and tea
When I'm mobile
Well, I can lay in bed with only highway ahead
When I'm mobile
Keep me moving
Keep me moving
Over fifty
Keep me groovin'
Just a hippie gypsy
Come on move now
Movin'
Keep me…

I wish I was a little bit taller
I wish I was a baller
I wish I had a girl who looked good, I would call her
I wish I had a rabbit in a hat with a bat
And a six four Impala

I asked Bobby Dylan
I asked The Beatles
I asked Timothy Leary
But he couldn't help me either

They call me The Seeker
I've been searching low and high
I won't get to get what I'm after
Till the day I die

We rewatched both Guardians of the Galaxy movies this week. Both movies contain gratuitous shirtless scenes with Chris Pratt and each time I immediately thought of doughy Andy and his broken leg.

Anyway, here's a brand new Parks and Rec special that was just released yesterday (that somey probably saw already):

It happened one summer, it happened one time
It happened forever, for a short time
A place for a moment, an end to dream
Forever I loved you, forever it seemed
One summer never ends, one summer never began
It keeps me standing still, it takes all my will
And then suddenly last summer
Sometimes I never leave, but sometimes I would
Sometimes I stay too long, sometimes I would
Sometimes it frightens me, sometimes it would
Sometimes I'm all alone and wish that I could
And then suddenly last summer
And then suddenly last summer
Until suddenly last summer
And then suddenly last summer
Until suddenly last summer

At night when you turn off all the lights
There's no place that you can hide
No no, the rhythm is gonna get'cha
In bed, throw the covers on your head
You pretend like you are dead
But I know it, the rhythm is gonna gey'cha
Rhythm is gonna get'cha
Rhythm is gonna get'cha
Rhythm is gonna get you
The rhythm is gonna get you tonight
No way, you can fight it every day
But no matter what you say
You know it the rhythm is gonna get'cha
No clue, of what's happening to you
And before this night is through
Ooh baby the rhythm is gonna get'cha
Rhythm is gonna get'cha
Rhythm is gonna get'cha
Rhythm is gonna get you
The rhythm is gonna get you tonight
Rhythm is gonna get'cha
Rhythm is gonna get'cha
Rhythm is gonna get you
The rhythm is gonna get you
Rhythm is gonna get'cha
Rhythm is gonna get'cha
The rhythm is gonna get you
(Na na na na na na na na)
Rhythm is gonna get'cha (na na na na na na na na)
Rhythm is gonna get'cha (na na na na na na na na)
(Na na na na na na na na)
The rhythm is gonna get you tonight!
