When our HQ moved to Dallas, we had a brand new fitness center waiting for us. Okay, it's just a room with some cheap equipment but still... I figured along with me quitting smoking (and gaining 15-20 MORE pounds in the process) I'd give working out a shot. I'm doing mostly cardio with a little bit of weight lifting thrown in. My main goal is to get my heart rate up and get my metabolism sped up and maybe start shedding a pound or 2. After 2 weeks I've actually gained a pound. I hope that trend is temporary.

Having a fitness room at work = awesome

They wanted to put one in here but apparently they didn't like the liability issues involved in case someone slipped on a bar of soap in the shower.

I've taken a fiber supplement for a couple of years now. I'm trying out a new one this week, Fiber Con. Holy crap this stuff makes you fart for hours. Talk about fun in the cube farm! I have to go "crop dusting" every 10 minutes or so till lunch. I wonder if anyone has figure out it's me yet?

Took a couple of weeks off dealing with family issues, but I'm back on track. I admit it's getting boring, though. Wish there was other people at work that worked out here, too. It's lonely on the elliptical when there's no one else in the room.

Have I lost any weight? Nah. But the soreness feels good. Just gotta stay with it.

The workout thing got too boring. I was in the Fitness Center by myself night after night and I just couldn't hang. For a couple of weeks I actually starting getting up at 5 and jogged/walked/mostly walked a couple of miles but that got old quick, too.

A few weeks ago a friend at work started working out with some video series (P90X ring a bell?). I told him if he did it, I would do it. So I've been doing that.

We did the Chalean Extreme DVDs (not nearly as intense as P190X). I lost 12 pounds in the first month and had some muscle tone in my arms for the first time ever. After three months (basically getting through three one month programs), we started to get a little lazy with it, but I've probably only put about 4 back on and we're starting it all over again tonight, with M-W-F instead of 5 days a week. It all gets boring unless you have someone who will help keep you motivated and will do the program with you. Your diet is so important though. And I probably would have stuck with cigs if I were you.

That's the biggest hurdle. It's hard to keep yourself motivated when it's so easy to say "fuckit". Having a workout buddy is cool.

I forgot to mention that on Tuesdays a little girl from the office holds a yoga class in our main conference room. It's quite the giggle seeing my fatass tied up in a knot, but I don't care.

It is my hope that if there be an insecure soccer coach somewhere who reads these excerpts, that they seize the opportunity to inspire the champion within these men struggling with fitness.
