So today in the mail I got my ZQuiet sleeping device. The website illustrates what happens when you sleep and I'm all but positive that's what happens to me when I pass out from drinking. I'm looking forward to tonight's sleep. I'll let you know who I feel in the morning.

I am here to report that my wife says the difference in my snoring is night and day. It's slightly uncomfortable but you get used to it. Oddly the product is a one size fits all and I think curvature of my mouth is slightly smaller than the product itself. I'm going to drop it in some hot water and see if I can't mold it to fit my mouth even better. It fell out a couple of times but I hoping my customization procedure will work.

I woke up this morning and I felt refreshed. I don't know if it's because I want the thing to work and I'm convincing myself or if it actually allowed me to get some good rem sleep. Either way I'm gonna see this thing through and hope it works out.

Mrs. bigboy has been telling me that I have sleep apnea for years - ungodly loud snoring, talking in my sleep, my breathing would stop repeatedly. Back in the days before my employer decided that middle aged men shouldn't have to share hotel rooms on road trips, my coworkers reported the same. I put on about 15 pounds over the year of so of COVID lockdown and I had lost all ability to stay awake while I was watching tv after 7:00 at night. I was waking up 3 or 4 times a night and I couldn't get back to sleep for an hour after at least one of those times. At my physical in December, I broke down and talked to the doctor about it. 4 months and 2 sleep studies later, the sleep doctor reported that I had 85 "events" per hour. As in I stopped breathing more than once per minute. I finally got a bipap machine in April. What a difference. I've only had more than 3 "events" in an hour one night since then. I sleep through the night, I actually have energy at the end of the day, I've lost 10 pounds, and my blood pressure is the lowest it's been in a decade. I used to roll out of bed at 7:30 and I was lucky to be in the office by 9:00. Now I'm up by 6:00 and at work by 7:30. Get your snoring fixed, fellas. It's worth it.

I got my snoring fixed a couple years ago. I wasn't at 85 events per hour, but it was still pretty high. Enough that the tech kinda laughed at the number.

Yeah, these things are difference makers. It's a whip wearing a mask to sleep and it takes some getting used to, but your sleep is so much more restful and you don't need quite as much sleep when you use it. I used to be Mr. Shitty Grumpola if I didn't get 8-9 hours of sleep. Now I only need 6-7 to not be an asshole in the morning.

Ugh. I remember those days of sharing hotel rooms. Just the worst I was bunked up once with a guy with your issues. It was terrible. I was so frustrated and raged out deep into sleepless night 2 i attacked him with a pillow. I can't remember how it played out other than him screaming and me screaming. I think i slept on the floor as the 3rd dude in another room that night. Can't remember after that. Pretty sure I had to talk with HR the next day.

It's not just the snoring. In our younger years, drinking was a big player and we would go straight from work to happy hour to dinner and rarely shut things down before midnight. Sharing rooms isn't all that bad when all you're doing is sleeping and showering. At some point, we started breaking in the late afternoon for some downtime and would call in a night by 8:00 or 9:00. There's nothing more uncomfortable than two guys hanging out in a hotel room. The first trip with separate rooms was glorious. It helped that we eventually had a CFO that joined us on trips and refused to share a room with anyone.
