Was it the older model? You need to have a transfer kit or somesuch to get all of your shit moved over from the old hard drive. Your account is locked into that drive until you transfer it.

Of course if you buy a used older model I think you can just trade out the hard drive and you're golden.

It's an older model. Bought it from Sagger years ago. I think I have a transfer kit already. Got one when I bought one non-Microsoft HD. These 250GB consoles look nice.

Bought a new Xbox over the weekend. It came with a free download code for Skyrim, which I already have. Any takers?

Wrapped up AC3 yesterday and I have no idea what happened, which is on par with the other games. I overall liked it but wasn't blown away. It has all the problems of the other games (horrible camera angles, ridiculous random movement of your character, stupid AI during escort missions, etc) but the environment isn't as fun as Rome and of Italy. And Connor's story isn't nearly as involving as Ezio's.

I will say the naval battles were fun, once I realized I could upgrade my ship. The replacement for the vault missions were good, too. Hunting is meh. And I never understood how to use the homestead people to make money. In II and Brotherhood, I think, I got how investing in businesses earned me money and improving the villa did the same. But here it was confusing as you have to come up with all the different materials and artisans to produce stuff then send it out into the world to be traded. So I never ended up doing it. Also, you never upgrade weapons or moves like in previous games. So it's the same basic counter-attack system throughout the game.

One major complaint: the first several hours of gameplay are BORING as Hell. You play as a limey and do nothing of major interest. There were some nice political moments, even if a ultra-violent video game may not seem the place for them. A scene on "Evacuation Day" (the day the British left the colonies for good) people are celebrating and screaming at the British fleet leaving the harbor "Go back to England, oppressors!" and the like. Connor turns around to see a slave auction going on behind them. Nice touch.

I am downloading the Walking Dead game from xbox live. I've heard more and more good things about it as the year-end awards start coming (it won the VGA for game of the year, whatever that means). It uses a Bethesda-esque choice system that gives you plenty of decisions to make that affect the story of the game. Over and over I hear the writing is massively better than that of the tv series and it follows the comics (twist--with gift money from distant relatives I broke down and bought compendiums 1 and 2). Also, it's $5.

With all the awards coming out, I really want to play Journey, but buying $250 PS3 to play a $5 game seems a tad silly.

I'm interested in how that game is. I've read great things, but I rarely stay with an episodic game.

So it's basically a point-and-click game, but with bashing zombie heads with hammers. You don't get to be Rick. You're Lee, a man seemingly wrongy accused of maybe killing your wife and on his way to prison when all Hell breaks loose. Interesting so far and I only played a few minutes, but it's going to take a lot of zombie-killing for me to shell out for more episodes.

I played the first few episodes a month ago or so. I didn't hate it but then again I haven't stuck with it.

When does the first AC stop sucking? So far, it's ride a horse forever, interrogate two people, kill somebody, repeat. I finished AC3 and it was pretty fun. So, I decided to start the first one. The fighting sucks too.

AC 1 sucks from beginning to end. Trade it for 2 and Brotherhood.

Really repetitive. Every mission is the same. And Altair is boring.

The other games are waaaaaaaay better.

My wife surprised me with an Xbox for Christmas. My nephew keeps insisting that I'll need to swap out the hard drive to get the best use out of it. Is this for real? Can I use an external hard drive? I'm not really looking to do a lot of online shit with it because 9 year olds from Utah kicking me in the balls whilst playing Modern Warfare won't do much to help my self-esteem. All I have right now is the Kinect sports games and I'll probably pick up something like COD.

If all you have is a 4 gig hd you may want to upgrade. You'll fill that up pretty fast if you download any arcade games. Plus you'll want to install games to the hd to save your DVD drive and make gaming quieter.

You can only use an external hd for backing up user accounts I believe.

So if I get one of the 250 gig internal hard drives that I'm finding online for about $70, is that going to be good enough to get me by? The smaller drives aren't really all that much cheaper.

Unless you get really crazy about installing demos and arcade stuff you should be fine. 250 gb is what I have. I've filled it up too but most of it is with installed disc games which are easily uninstalled.

I played episode 1 yesterday after realizing they were offering it for free. I dug it but I grew up playing those old point and click adventure games from Sierra and Lucasarts. For one day they had the remaining episodes for only 200 MS points each, or about $10. Kinda pissed I missed the sale cuz I think I'd like to play further.

I want to play through each episode a couple times trying different things snd use different save slots to see how the story differs. Like what happens if I let the dumb kid die and save Hershel's son etc.

That doesn't make sense, there hardly a difference between the two.
