Walt, can you give me a pump? I can either sit on the handlebars or ride on the pegs in the back.

If someone has an extra bike, I want to go for a ride with Walt and Hoob to see what its like.

I actually have an old trail bike lying around that needs a new back tube.

I think it's a combination of the trails being difficult and me not being a good rider.

It's climbing rocky hills, going over tree roots and between trees. I've wrecked twice on the easy course at Bonham, the last time because I hit a tree root in loose soil and flew over the handlebars.

At the Isle du Bois trail at Lake Ray Roberts, I've wrecked something like 15 times, maybe 5 of them fairly serious. There are a lot of rocks, hills to climb, and dangerous corners with rocks on them. A couple of years ago I got a scar on my knee that took about 6 months to disappear. My wife t-boned a tree there last year and won't go back. I don't go there as much as I used to.

An expert rider probably doesn't wreck at either course.

Hoob.

Walt's right. Staying on the road keeps one from all of the Hoob style wrecks.

Unfortunately, I fear the automobile driving up my ass.

Keep rockin the bike paths, hoob. Bicycles do NOT belong on the same streets with cars, esp streets where the speed limit is over 45.

I have to drive around people several times a week on 157 between Arlington and Euless, where the speed limit is 55. Half the time those idiots don't even move over as cars zoom by.

any rider on a road with that high a speed limit is stupid.
On the other hand, if it's below that, and I'm on the road, get the fuck over it. I have as much right as you. If you don't like it, hit me and total your car.

Because of ongoing back issues, I'm going to shut down cycling and everything else for the rest of the summer. I improve a little bit and then hurt it again. This has been going on since early June. Friday night I hurt it to the point that I couldn't drink enough on Saturday to make it quit hurting.

Went to the doctor after work today, waited 25 minutes, was hurting like hell while sitting in the waiting area. A couple of unattended kids in the waiting room started scuffling over some toys and I couldn't take it any more.

I think I did it on the weight bench this time. I was lowering myself down and I used my legs to do the anchoring as I was lying down. It caused me to do a reverse sit-up and that's what did it. The next morning I couldn't even put on a pair of socks. It was a dumb mistake.

I don't know, maybe I am hurting myself on the bike, too. I do hit a couple of thousand bumps in one ride but I don't notice them hurting me at the time. I should try out one of those bikes and see what they're all about.

well first off, get off the trails. You're probably doing more harm than good.
Ride on the roads. There are plenty of safer roads to ride.

After sinking to a low point in back pain a couple of weeks ago, I am nearly well now. Have really gone out of my way to not re-injure my dumb self.

Now that I'm pain free, I'm going to wait another week before I start trying to do any exercise at all. Was planning on going to my favorite trail in Bonham next weekend, but I noticed that they are having a women-only event so I won't be going there.

It's been three weeks since I did any exercise at all, the last time ending in disaster.

Did a light lower body workout this afternoon, lived. Maybe my back is ok.

That's great news! :fist: Just make sure Mrs. Hoob stays away from the Reverse Cowboy for another week or so. You don't want to take any chances of reinjury.....

I left this out from yesterday.

I did go to the trail and went 12 miles. Saw three or four hot girls, a guy riding a recumbent bike, and a soul brother that looked like T.O. all the way down to the sunglasses he was wearing when he cried after they lost to the Giants.

Also saw 4 deer including 2 babies.

Gee, I haven't made an entry since August? Pitiful.

Did a light upper body workout after work to see if I still can. I took a supplement and went three rounds on the Bowflex. They say that muscle mass decreases as one gets old. It's true.

Let's see if I can get out of bed tomorrow.

Took the mountain bike to the lake, rode on the sidewalks that circle the park. It's a rolling 2.5 mile route. Went 6.5 total. I'm so out of shape. In Boy Scouts the beginning level is called Tenderfoot.

Having not sat on a bike for a while, I'm a tenderass.

Saw two deer, a poodle that was on the back of a bicycle and barked furiously at me, and about 500 Mexicans fishing. A friend of mine told me that the floods of a couple of years ago caused the park to take a large financial hit because it meant that Mexicans weren't paying to go to the park and fish. Now I understand what she meant.

In another thread I told the story about being handcuffed at a side park at Lake Ray Roberts. While waiting for the dispatcher to look up my information the park rangers and I got onto the topic of riding on the DORBA trails and how I've had some bad spills there. I asked her if there were ever serious injuries on those trails and she said it did happen occasionally. She also said that finding their location was kinda difficult because people often didn't know exactly where they were.

Hopefully I won't be one of those poor sumbitches that it happens to.

Make sure your phone has gps and see if there is an app installed or you can buy to look up long/lat. I think google maps has this. Check into it, it would be an easy way for help to find you. Either that or take a flare gun.

Took the bike to work and went to the trail after work. Figured the wind had dried the thing out some. That was so very damn wrong. There were about 3 small ponds to ride around, and on the way back I was going too fast to go by the side of one really large area of water. Had to ride through water about a foot deep, got soaked and was chilled like a popsickle.

To make matters worse, I went through another area that amounted to quicksand. Yes, I was wearing pedal clips. BARELY powered my way out of disaster. As I rode out of that mess I was thinking about Terd asking about how often I wrecked.

Tune in next week for the latest pointless adventures of Hoob.

Wow, it's been nearly 2 months since I last rode.

Went 12 miles on the same trail. Was 92 degrees, no big deal there, although I came upon an older couple on recumbents and the woman was having difficulty with the heat.

Also came upon a young couple (late 20s) who had a flat on a borrowed bike. A hippie couple rode up at the same time, and this guy had everything needed to fix their problem. He even used part of the old tube to cover the rotted part of the tire. HOWEVER, these people were doucher know-it-alls and I couldn't get a word in edgewise. Judging from the looks of the hippie woman's boobs, they were also nudists. Great. The young couple was really friendly and I felt bad that I couldn't help them.

It was fun and I should be able to go again tomorrow.

22 miles on my beloved Greenbelt trail.

Saw a GILF, a couple of walkers, an old couple riding, and a young couple riding. Also saw one snake and a squirrel.

I am not in biking shape and this was a difficult ride.

Bonham State Park today, went about 10 miles on their trails. There are some minor climbs here but nothing that the cycle fags would call "technical."

Really enjoyed the ride and am thankful I got to go. No day this summer will be as good as this one unless some redhead throws me down at this weekend's gig.

While awkwardly bending down to pick up a 40 pound dog, I threw my back out and it hurts like hell. On June 4 of last year I started a 3 month stretch of bad back crap.

Fail. No more riding for awhile.

Did a light lower body workout yesterday, lived. Back was sore during it but didn't hurt any worse. Same goes for this morning.

Temptation was too much today, went to Bonham State Park in hopes the rain missed them. It did miss them, and I spent 2 and a half hours on the trails there. Rode the main trails twice, rode most of the alternate trails once.

It is a great place to ride. Hoob is happy.

I forgot this dumb detail of today's ride.

I decided to throw caution to the wind and haul ass while riding. So here was an old man riding on trails like I was some motocross sonofabitch.

It was kinda fun.

Went 22 miles on the Greenbelt. It is windy today, so that adds some effort to the ride. The wind kinda swirls around the trees, so even when I'm going with the wind, sometimes I'm not. But I have another, larger issue.

Who is the Einstein that ran a tandem disc and a road grader through there? It made the trail bumpy as hell and I feel like I rode 35 miles on that thing. Maintaining 10 mph was a major accomplishment in that crap. I'm going to have to find somewhere else to ride for a couple of weeks.

Saw a friendly milf, a guy carrying a fishing pole, and a couple about my age. The guy looked exactly like Wade Boggs. I didn't think to ask him if he ate fried chicken before he rode.

Hoob.

Talked the wife into taking the bikes to Bonham State Park today. After 30 minutes of really slow riding she got too hot and we had to leave. How can someone who grew up without air conditioning have such a hard time with heat?

Went to the DORBA trail at Lake Ray Roberts today, took loops A, B, C. What a death trail that thing is. No wrecks, but had some really funny close calls.

There are four large dry creekbeds to ride through, large enough that the bank is over the rider's head when riding through one. Deciding to use the tactic of carrying a lot of speed going down into the creek, I had some funny results on the way back up, nearly hitting trees on two of my passes.

I had fun.

Fifth day in a row to ride. Took off early from work to accomplish this.

Went to a different DORBA trail at Lake Ray Roberts. There is a branch north of Sanger called the Johnson Branch and there is a trail there. I'd read that it was as rocky as the Isle du Bois trail (death trail) but I learned that this was wrong, really wrong.

This was a fun trail and much safer than Isle du Bois. There are climbs but they aren't nearly as severe or life-threatening.

Rode something like an hour and a half, forgot to reset my odometer so I don't know what distance I went. The total trail is 8.1 miles, I probably went 5.

Happy Hoob.
