'Fraid you are right.

Went 12 miles today. Had no problem at all EXCEPT I got hungry toward the end and was about out of gas. I should know better than that.

Hoob.

Pack a Powerbar next time, and make sure you're hydrated.

I think I'm going to change this to a watch Hoob succeed at getting fatter blog. I have back issues, and for no reason. Woke up yesterday hurting, didn't lift or do anything the day before. This really pisses me off.

I improved greatly this afternoon. Got out into the heat and mowed the yard. In one day I went from being a vegetable to wanting to knock off a piece. I'm not dead yet.

Decided Sunday afternoon that getting on the Hoobcycle might be a good idea. My back hurt at first but I forgot about the pain quickly.

So I did the 12 mile trail. This equates to about 20 on the road.

Saw three hot girls on bikes, 1 soul brother riding his bike alone, and 2 hot late 20-somethings on horses. Also saw one deer. I probably had the best chance of a roll in the hay with the deer.

Went 22 miles today out in the heat and had the trail to myself, was uneventful.

Like the old fool that I am, I stopped off at the Dam Store (a convenience store) and got a soda and candy bar because I had earned the right to it.

Nearly barfed, had to lie down on the couch for awhile.

But I'm ok now. Noticed this morning that am about 15 pounds more than I'd like to be, 15 less than my fattest weight.

Today I went out to my favorite trail at Bonham State Park. This trail is perfect for an old man like me, but it's 85 miles from my house, so I only go there 2 or 3 times a year. The trail is about a 10 mile ride and is not really life-threatening at all. It has maybe 3 climbs on it. I had to dismount on two of them because I'm not in as good shape as I thought I was.

Should have brought trimmers. Had to dodge some vines. Should have brought some Weed Be Gone for the poison ivy. And there was a bunch of that.

If I didn't get poison ivy there, I got it at an old cemetery later in the day. I needed to document the tombstones for this website, and I stopped to take a piss at some point. Looking down, I noticed that I was standing in poison ivy while pissing. Some people just can't help themselves.

Cue darkness music for Mallard.

Rode the 22 mile trail today in the heat, was a pretty easy ride. Saw various other riders and pedestrians. Also saw a couple on horseback and the cute female was really friendly. My helmet hid the fact that I'm 50.

Also saw a family carrying a canoe on the bike trail. Don't ask. I don't know the answer.

Had some sort of insect fly into a vent on my helmet but was unable to sting my old bald head. Not sure if the skull cap that prevented it or what. A wasp got me a couple of years ago when I was riding.

Went 22 miles this morning. Only saw 2 snakes and 2 riders. And a bunch of buzzards circling overhead.

Right now, my ass feels like I spent the weekend at Huntsville.

Bonham State Park today, went something like 15 miles. Was able to do all but one of their little climbs. They had 4 or 5 trees blown down by last week's storms, so that caused me to ride more. Even so, I had the best time I have had all summer, in a summer that has been nothing but kickass. To top things off, some milf struck up a conversation with me as I was finishing up my ride. Once again, the helmet does wonders in hiding my oldness.

And then later in the day I went to help someone with a home repair job and messed up my back in the worst way. I can't even walk now, and I am pissed off and mad at the world now. Barring some sort of miracle, I am done with biking for a week at the least. I need beer.

Since my last entry on Wednesday, I went from being unable to stand up to wash my hands on Friday morning to riding my bike 22 miles on Tuesday on the flat trail. I am so thankful that I am better.

Showing improvement. Worked in the yard for about 4 hours. Lifted tonight, did a lower body workout. Did experience a little bit of back pain, but I'm not worried about it.

Noticed that I have yet another fucking flat on my trail bike. Bought a new tube the other day, got one ride out of it. I guess I need liners on this bike too. I had gone 1500 miles with no flats on this bike, now I have them right and left.

Had to work in a mom visit, so I went to Bonham State Park again. Rode the main trails twice, hadn't done that before.

Opened my ride with an easy section called the Lake Loop. About 200 yards into my ride, I got caught up in some soft ground and some tree roots and over the handlebars went Hoob. It skinned up both knees and bent up the front derailleur, but it pissed me off more than anything else.

It was a great ride.

I use the entry-level Trek mountain bike, about $625. I was using a general purpose bike I got from Sears and the wheels were getting warped by the flat trail so I got this.

I wasn't planning on going on death trails, it just kinda happened.

My knees hurt.

Death trail. That's funny. That's what I refer to the hair that goes from Fruit's belly button down his front side.

Fun but deathy

Took the wife to the trail at 9:00 am, went 12 miles. She nearly didn't make it home alive. Went into the bedroom after we got home and she was in bed, naked, with an icepack on her head. I nearly took her to the emergency room right there.

Went 22 miles this morning, fought through some terrible back pain. Am thinking about some sort of medical attention now. Even so, I enjoyed the experience and am glad I went.

Saw a bike shop employee with a young lady, they were on a bicycle built for two. Also passed by a couple of old cowboys riding horses. They asked me to dismount as I passed by, and I did. I'd hate to be responsible for the deaths of a couple of old goats.

Once again I had about half a dozen buzzards circling overhead toward the end.

Went 22 on the trail again today, enjoyed the ride. The trail was a little busier today, I'm guessing the holiday had something to do with it. I am starting to get in a little bit of decent shape now.

Third day in a row to go 22, enjoyed it even more than yesterday. There were quite a few riders out today, which is a good thing. Experimented with higher gears for a little of the ride. Four years ago I could do the whole thing in 24th gear. These days, not so much.

Forgot to post about my boring ride yesterday. Got out the road bike and went 30. I am NOT used to that seat. Can't believe that I used to ride that thing all the time.

Took my trail bike to work and rode the Greenbelt after I was finished with the job thing. Went 24. This is as good as I have felt in a while. Mrs. Hoob is about to get thrown down when she gets home from work.

Skipped two days because of soreness.

No work on Friday, so I did the 22 mile ride. Uneventful. Anyone with sense was indoors.

After eating lunch, I went to the death trail and rode it. Didn't I swear last year that I'd never ride it again? Didn't crash, did nearly have a heart attack on one of the climbs. It was 99 degrees when I was done. Drank 48 oz of water and a propel.

I know the regulars at that trail would disagree with this, but I say that trail is suffering from some erosion.

Hoob.

I rode again on Saturday, guess I didn't post that one. Went 22.

Didn't ride Sunday or Monday, am suffering from soreness in the hips. No, not the anus.

Not sure if this is from the climbs I did the other day or something else. Mrs. Hoob thinks it's an alignment thing from my spine messing things up.

No riding today, dang it.

I've been riding a trail bike to get back into shape, and sumbitch that thing is heavy.

Nothing says defeat like being near the end of your ride under the high five.

Have made a decent recovery physically, went to the trail and rode 22. For the first time in a month, my back didn't hurt when I got off the bike.

Saw 2 deer, 3 rabbits, a squirrel, and 7 riders. Those deer are bad about running across the trail right in front of me. Someday I'm going to collide with one and it's gonna hurt.

Noticed that a large group of girls were about to go on a night ride on their horses. I feel sorry for the horse that the one fat girl was about to ride.

What a great sight that would be:

An old man on a bicycle, slowly dragging a dragging deer behind it.

Decided yesterday to try something different in dealing with back pain. Got on the Bowflex and did a normal workout. I actually felt better.

This afternoon I went to Bonham and rode the trail twice, went 15 miles. No wrecks. Felt good/strong and had plenty left in the tank when I was done.

Did an upper body workout tonight and my back hurts a little now. That's ok. Today was a goodly good day.

I'm not trying to be funny but damn, how often do you wreck? I thought the old saying "like riding a bike" meant something was easy. Are you going over sweet jumps or what?

ya know, that's a fair question. I think I fell over one time, right when I first starting wearing clips on my cycling shoes (slow motion falldowns are embarrassing as shit, btw), but I don't know that I've wrecked since.
Of course, now I just jinxed myself and I'll probably get hit by an SUV, but whatever. Still.
