Aaron Freeman - Marvelous Clouds - Who is Aaron Freeman, you may ask? He's also known as Gene Ween, and he just released a solo album of songs by poet/songwriter Rod McKuen. I don't know much about Rod McKuen, but I don't think he's been thought of highly by literary snobs. Doesn't matter though, because Aaron likes his work and gives some straight and sincere interpretations of his songs/poems. This isn't a joke album. There aren't any funny voices or crazy noises. It's lite rock your mom would like. It's a nice album that offers a look at where Aaron is at this point in his life--approaching middle-age and trying to stay sober with Ween unofficially but most likely done. The songs seem kinda sappy but they fit. He always had a lot of lounge singer in him, so he's able to have some fun without seeming self-conscious. It doesn't beat a set of original songs, but it'll work until he releases some of those.

I picked up the Jack White solo album yesterday. I have to say that on a first listen I'm kinda underwhelmed, but I'd like a ruling from Tit on whether or not I'm supposed to like it.

I can't complain about them. Yeah, they were as white as Wonder Bread, but some of their songs are actually decent.

On a related note, my buddy who does a toobin' trip every year took his a couple weekends ago (I couldn't go.) His big thing is creating boom boxes out of coolers so he's got some tunes to listen to while floating down the river. It's actually a bit of a beating because he listens to a lot of shitty meathead music. This year, he rigged it up so it grabbed all the music off Spotify through his phone. He had playlists set up and gave me access to add stuff to it. I waited til he left on the trip before adding "Close to You" to his Big Dumb Butt Rock list. In the middle of the day, with everyone within a quarter mile radius able to hear his shit, shuffle selected it. Apparently, all he said was, "That asshole!" while the river denizens laughed at him.

My only regret is that I didn't think of putting "Never Gonna Give You Up" on there. I could've rickrolled the entire river. #coolstorybro

I'm a sucker for indie rock folk bands so I'm a fan of the Avett Brothers. On Saturday they were at Nokia/Verizon or whatever the fuck it's called in Grand Prairie and Dirk got up on stage with them to showcase his mad tamborine skills. I feel stupid for not going.

Do you pay for it? I don't, and the commercials are annoying, but the amount of stuff they have on there for free makes up for it.

I signed up for the premium last week. I held out forever but having it on meh phone is just awesome. My truck radio doesn't have one of those AUX ports but I'm going to fix that soon.

Maybe in a few weeks. I'm debating on getting a new stereo or just adding the AUX port. The stereo I was looking at is nice but it doesn't fit my dash. I've looked into it and apparently the only double din dashes for my truck are made by some dude in Kentucky and he's charging quite a bit for it.

The wifey's car has a tape player (in an 06! Those crazy Koreans!). Does it work very well? We've tried a couple of the FM adapters that plug in to the DC outlet but the static is annoying.

Aesop Rock's new album Skelethon dropped today and it's awesome. Yeah, I know you've never heard of him, but that's a YP. This guy spouts some of the most complicated raps ever. Naturally, you'll never hear him on the radio because teenage heads would asplode if they played him on KISS-FM. This album is a jam. Give "ZZZ Top" or "Zero Dark Thirty" a sample, then buy the album.

On a whim I took a chance on an album Spotify was pushing on the front page.

Folky type shit, real 60's hippie crap. Sounds like most of the album is covers. Not sure why it exists and damn not sure why it's being pushed on Spotify. Of course, I'm a musical idiot and this album will probably win 20 awards or some shit.
