There's been no better 1-2 album punch in history than when the Stones followed Sticky Fingers with Exile on Main St.

Weird Al's "Bad Hair Day" followed by "Running with Scissors" would like a word with you.

Why did I just have a flash of Squiggy throwing open the door announcing to the room "Hello!"

The Black Keys are a good. So are the Black Lips, Black Kids, Black Flag, Big Black, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, and Blackie Lawless.

It's time to start taking Arcade Fire seriously. Their new album The Suburbs borders on great. Coming after their very good debut and follow-up albums, they've dropped some of the artsiness in favor of more RAWK! They are officially the real deal.

Dear Breast Whistler,

I'm wanting to get into Zappa. Which album(s) would you recommend starting on?

This can be very difficult as the wrong choice can turn you off forever. I started at the beginning with Freak Out, and that's not such a bad place. It doesn't get weird until the end of the album. Hot Rats is another good one to start with. It's mostly instrumental, but not too taxing. Otherwise, stick with some of his more humorous albums because at least the poop jokes will distract from the dense time signatures. Apostrophe and Sheik Yerbouti are good places for those.

Make it through that and we can discuss where to go next.

Ok, I'll listen to the entire album and cut down on the comments.

it has been a while since my sphincter had the presence of your uncircumcised member, therefore your placement on shitlist/mine.

Holy shit is that song genius. I heard it unedited in a Jimmy John's once. Couldn't believe meh ears.

And the thing to remember about Zappa is he's a composer, not a songwriter. He played rock, but he had no use for rock music itself. He liked him some doo-wop, but otherwise his influences were all classical composers and other assorted experimental music types.

"Sheik Yerbouti" was a blast. I'm about to fire up "Apostrophe". I think I'll try "Hot Rats" after that.
Just downloaded a wide swath of his discography, so I'll post what I have later to get a feel from you on what might be a good next listen.

Ok, listening to "Guitar", disc one, (it has In-a-gadda-stravinsky). All instrumental, but I'm digging it.
As far as more song oriented stuff, what would be a recommendation?

If you made it through the easier ones with no problem, it might be good to just listen to whatever grabs you. There's some stuff to avoid, like the huge chunk of movie in the middle of the Uncle Meat album, and I've never bothered with 200 Motels.

For songs, Absolutely Free, Burnt Weeny Sandwich, Overnite Sensation, and Weasels Ripped My Flesh are good. Lumpy Gravy and We're in It for the Money are both really good, but they're both albums that need to be listened to in one sitting. Eventually, you need to get to Thing-Fish, because you'll love the dialogue portions by the head Mammy Nun.

I got kinda day buzzed at Mi Cocina yesterday and walked over to a Border's after lunch and picked this up. It good. So far the title track, City With No Children, and Month of May are my favorites.

That sounds like a good day except for the spending $18 on a CD part.

Dear Tit,

This may seem to be a strange dedication request, but I am quite sincere and it'll mean a lot if you play it.

Recently, there was a death in our family. He was a little dog named Snuggles. But he was most certainly a part of

A. Mannin
Cincinnati, Ohio

I want a goddamn concerted effort to come out of a record that isn't a fucking up-tempo record every time I gotta do a goddamn death dedication! It's the last goddamn time; I want somebody who uses his fucking brain to not come out of a goddamn record... that's up-tempo and I've got to talk about a fucking dog dying!
