The Best Years of Our Lives from 1946. Comes on TCM tonight at 7pm. This was shot right after the war, and it's not a feel good movie. Frederich March won an Oscar for this one. Also winning is a guy that blew off his hands.

This movie really shows that life wasn't a bed of roses for vets once they got back. Families wanted to go on as life always had, but these vets just couldn't shake the war. It's hard to believe this came out in 1946.

Hi Somey.

Neat trivia question:

Who was the only actor to win 2 Oscars for the same role?

Harold Russell in "The Best Years of Our Lives." One for Best Supporting Actor and one for "Being an Inspiration to all Returning Veterans".

I liked it. I've seen parts of it before but never sat through the whole 3 hours. Thanks for the heads up, red.

Tonight, you have the chance to see To Kill a Mockingbird from 1962. It comes on at 7pm on TCM. The film is considered an American classic and Gregory Peck took home the Best Actor Oscar. The film lost Best Picture to Larry of Arabia.

The film was shot during the height of the race revolution, and the era of the film was from a much worse period - 1930's Alabama. Peck's Atticus Finch is a lawyer defending a black man accused of raping a white chick. Normally kids suck in movies, but the kids are good in this one.

Curious as to what 1/2 of star you didn't like about this movie.

It's my ranking. You should set up Gam's re-ranking of movies thread.

Bonus recommendation for tonight - 12 Angry Men from 1957. It comes on at 1am on TCM. The movie lost Best Flick to Bridge Over the River Kwai.

Henry Fonda is one of my favorite actors of all time, and he's brilliant in this. This is basically a one set play. 11 jurors think one way and the 12th tries to get them to change their minds.

:banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: out of 5.

Gam, can you start that re-ranking thread, so I can re-rank 12 Angry Men to 5 stars?

12 Angry Men > Bridge over the River Kwai
Kwai is one of the more overrated war movies of all time.

:banghead: <--The missing from the 12 Angry Men ranking. It should be 5 of 5. Or as Gam would say, 12 for 4.

Still a great movie. RIP Jerry Orbach.

Tonight at 7pm on TCM, The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly from 1966. It is the 3rd western from Sergio Leone that starred Clint Eastwood. The movie is shot in Italy but set in America during the Civil War. Most of the actors are italians and have their lines dubbed in. If you can get over that, it's a great movie.

By the by, this is my brother's favorite movie (top 10-20 for me, certainly). His youngest son's middle name is Arch.

You care about making quality posts. I don't. Somey wanted me to start this thread, and I did. Once I start something, I don't quit it. Until I quit it.

And you are reviewing movies. That requires more research than looking at the tv guide and seeing what's coming on and if I've seen the movie.

If you take away the nonsense from Gam and MT and posts dedicated to correcting your mistakes, that leaves the thread at around 2 dozen posts.
