He was convicted. Call it whatever you want, sex with a minor is rape no matter what the plea ends up being. I know you know that, and I understand the point your trying to make, but the bottom line is celebs need to shut the fuck up when it comes to shit like this. Trying to tip toe around whatever he was "technically" convicted of just makes Whoopi and all the other Hollywood idiots look like complete douches who have lost all sense of reality.

and the judge fucked it all up by checking his ethics at the door. If you want to rail on someone, rail on that judge. Because no matter what his intentions were, he's the reason there's even any debate on this.

Now that, I actually agree. The original DA and the judge F'd this up from the start. Polanski was given way too much leniency just because of who he was.
