I don't know about the age thing, to each his own, but those coaches should be relieved of their duties for making them run at each other so far apart and for not teaching them to keep their heads up.

they should have gotten in that kid's face for lowering his head like that. I remember my first really bad stinger when I got caught with my head down and it was pretty damn scary. I lost feeling in my arm for about 30 minutes.

I just pulled the age out of my butt. I've never coached football so I don't know what the optimum age should be, but wearing helmets from the getgo gives them a false sense of invulnerability. They'll be much better off learning to tackle without leading with their head.
