I'd like to see a bridge with a couple of kids throwing bowling balls over the rail.

Blindfolded naggers to run down on the track wouldn't be bad.

At least keep the blindfolds off and make a sport of it.

What am I saying? Those hillbillies are probably more accustomed to dragging them behind vehicles rather than running them down.

Wow. This sport/game/skill is in trouble.

The Phoenix race was so dull that it would have induced sleep to someone on a meth high. Jimmie Johnson led 312 laps. Only 4 drivers led any laps at all. Pitiful stuff.

The camera angles at the Phoenix track are troublesome. When the Indy cars used to race there back in the 70s and 80s, I don't remember noticing this. These days the camera angles make this race difficult to watch.

Makes me laugh. The media hyped up NASCAR's rising popularity for a few years and, somewhere along the way, people figured out that is really is just cars driving around in a circle. That combined with the fact that they've watered down the sport to the point that only one lucky guy can win it all has spelled doom.

That was driven by Fox. They did the same thing with hockey with similar results. They don't understand those sports are regional and always will be, so stop signing big ass contracts and forcing that shit down our throats.

:babyarm: x a bazillion.

Since Fox took NASCAR away from ESPN (and others) in 2001 the broadcasts have changed in several ways, none for the better.

As expected, Jimmie Johnson wins his fourth straight title at Homestead. He finished 5th at Homestead in a ho-hum race and that was that. Mark Martin finishes second in points for the 5th time in his career. Denny Hamlin won the race. Tony Stewart and Juan Pablo Montoya got into it on the track, making me giggle.

Chad Knaus did a good job of making me hate Johnson even more with this great quote after the race: "He's the most underrated guy in the garage." For fucks sake. I delivered a double bird straight at my TV.

Yahoo! Sports is reporting that Danica Patrick signed a 3 year deal to stay with Andretti-Green racing. I think this is a good move for her.

Probably her threat to move to NASCAR was a contract ploy.

NASCAR would be more interesting if there were a Tampax car.

It could be the feature car at the Massengill 500

That sponsorship would be more appropriate for Dale Jr.

It would appear that if Danica could find a part-time ride in a lower tier of NASCAR, she would take it even though she has re-signed with Michael Andretti's team.

Quite a few advisers have advised her to start at a lower level. Starting at the Sprint Cup would result in certain failure, and quite a few folks have pointed this out to her. It sounds to me like she understands that she has to get in with one of the power teams to get anything done. At least she has that going for her.

Well, this isn't good.

Dale Jr. says that the sponsorship situation of his Nationwide team is "dire."

I can't blame sponsors for avoiding this series, but I hate to see this. Like a lot of people, I think that the overabundance of top drivers in this series has damn near killed it. Who wants to watch Kyle Douche run circles around a bunch of beginners? Not me.

But Unca Hoob, it makes for a real fun story when he wins in all 3 series in one weekend.

It has been reported that Danica has signed with JR Motorsports to drive in the Nationwide series next year. Nationwide is like the AAA level of NASCAR.

However, her first race will be in the ARCA series, which is more like AA. No word about who her sponsor will be, but I've heard before that they have Jetski as a possibility.

My thoughts:

I'm +/- on this gal. I want her to do well, but I'm not ga-ga over her, either. I remember hearing about her 5 years ago about how she was tearing it up at the lower levels and she was much better than Sarah Fisher, et cetera. I wish that Sarah had opportunities like Danica has had.

NASCAR to ditch wing, go back to spoiler on cars.

I like this move.

I've always hated the stupid-looking wing that was mandated on the cars being used in cup. Sometime during the 2010 season they are going back to spoilers.

I wonder if Ryan Newman's horrible crash at Talladega had anything to do with it. I thought at the time that the wing contributed to him being flipped over at 190 mph.

More rules changes and I like them both:

1. Bump drafting is allowed again on the corners at restrictor plate tracks. It had been banned due to safety concerns and because some morons were spinning people out and causing big wrecks. A couple of drivers came out in favor of this rule saying they could police drivers themselves.

2. Larger holes are allowed in the restrictor plates, meaning more horsepower. The attempt here is to break up the large packs of cars. I wonder what they are going to do when speeds get over 200? They will.

They decided to keep the rule banning passing below the yellow line at restrictor plate tracks. In other words, Dale Junior can't cheat like he did at Talladega.

So I just saw a 5 second promo for the Daytona on Fox... it flashed a picture of Dale Sr with the voice over saying "there's a place where legends live forever..."

um... I think most everyone's memory of Daytona is Dale eating a wall at 180mph, not for his one win there. Is there no one else recognizable enough for Fox to use? Jeff Gordon, perhaps? He wins a lot.

M'yep.

For him, Daytona was 20 years of failure, one win, then death.

They should use the stock clip of the Allisons fighting Cale.

Saw the 15 second spot for this, showcasing Dale even more. I think they're trying to subconsciously tell people to watch cause you could see some death. They should just show the damn wreck and be done with it.

I guess they sat in a board room and brainstormed on how to bring some interest in a series that is hemorrhaging fans. After they erased all of the other choices, "appeal to dead Dale's fans" was left on the whiteboard.

I guess.

And that means nothing to me, because I couldn't stand the guy when he raced. His career was done anyway. He wasn't going to win any more titles, but you can't tell his fans that.

Ok, I have thought of something that I liked dead Dale for:

He loved Indianapolis and winning there was a big deal for him. Being injured and nearly not being able to race there one year nearly made him cry. I had 5 minutes of respect for him after that.

Here's an interesting story about Danica is doing it the smart way by starting out in ARCA.

Story here

However, at the end of the piece, Montoya makes the point that driving open wheel and attempting to learn NASCAR is not a good idea. He makes a good point.

They're smart in trying her out in the minor series first instead of force feeding into Sprint. I'm sure she would be a marketing home run and a remedy to some of their ratings woes in the short term, but a long anticitpated build up would be better for the long run.

Didn't see the ARCA race today, but noticed that Danica finished sixth. Reports say that she spun into the grass at one point, after doing some checking I learned that she was run into the grass by another driver. She made a great recovery and came back to finish where she did.

So she did as well as she could have.
