He'd look funny with short hair and a uniform that fits.

Randy Johnson would be purely a PR thing. He's 5 wins away from 300 so he'll put asses in seats no matter where he signs. But with the Rangers, he'll only be blocking a younger guy. Naturally, you can look for Hicks to sign him while passing on Ben Sheets.

They're also interested in Andy Petite.

Hey this is great. Millwood, Padilla, Johnson, Petite.

Developing young guys = just talk. They'd rather try to win 85 games, miss out on the playoffs and be back to 70 wins the next season than take your lumps and get the young guys some innings.

Luckily, most pitchers shun the Rangers. Hopefully that happens again.

By the way, I like the Laird trade. Even if the pitchers don't work out (they won't), it clears out some room at C and we don't have to listen to Gerry whine anymore about playing time when he's getting outplayed.

They say they plan on letting Teagarden and Salty play at the Majors and let Ramirez play at AAA. I'd rather shop Salty and bring Ramirez up to backup Teagarden and play some DH.

85 wins would be a stretch with that rotation.

As bad as I want the Rangers to "spend some money and get some pitching in here," I have a hard time giving Sheets $15 million a year.

Bringing Johnson in here shouldn't block a young guy from developing because it seems that they are working hard to move either Millwood or Padilla, especially if you believe the Newberg Report on how much interest there is in those two knuckleheads. Johnson really pitched well last year. He only touches 93 on the gun, but his slider is still nasty.

Sheets could either be a disaster or a bargain. I'd rather the Yanks sign him than Burnett, but I guess there's something on his medical report that scares the crap out of everyone.

So it's like both times they've signed Nolan.

I kinda wondered about that, would there be any interest if Nolan wasn't here. He's not going to take them to the top, it's obviously a PR move but he may not get 5 wins until August and he could be playing for another team by then.

$15 mil/yr for Sheets is a little high but he has more of a chance to succeed than Chan Ho did when he got his $15 mil/yr.

I always thought he needed to open his eyes a little more, it's hard enough to throw to a spot with your eyes being wide open let alone squinting them all the time.

There had been reports that the Phillies were close to coming to terms with Park to improve their bullpen.

Park was quoted as saying, Philly wants him to be a starter. Good luck with all of that!

that was a mistranslation.
He said "Hang sung chock so", which they took to mean "I'll be a starter", but it really means "Holy fuck, someone's dumber than Tom Hicks!"

Welp, the Phillies resigned 99 year old Jamie Moyer, so maybe that puts Park in the bullpen where he belongs.

But he made all of these kickass upgrades to the Ballpark. That'll get fans to show up, Hicks!

Benoit is out for 6 months. Can't say it breaks my heart. The offense will be fine, but the bullpen may get them killed in April.

At least with the starters, there is some hope with the younger guys. The bullpen is bring back in terrible retreads.

The White Sox appear to be signing Adam Dunn and his 200 strikeouts per year for four years, $14 million per year.

Really? Unless the guy hits 60 homers a year, his 200 strikeouts ain't worth it. He made $12 mil last year from the Nats? No wonder they sucked like Linda Lovelace.

Since I hate the White Sox, this is a great signing and I am really happy for them.

I heard today that the Yankees re-signed Derek Jeter for $17 mil per year for 3 years. No surprise, of course. He's a great Yank and should not be finishing his career with the Rays.

Too much for his level of production, but it beats the shit out of the $150M/6 yrs he was rumored to be looking for.

Adrian Gonzalez is headed to Boston. He's gonna tear shit up there. It's also fun to remember the Rangers once traded him (and Chris Young) for Adam Eaton.

Oh, good grief. Here's a guy who thinks that the Red Sox are the team to beat in the East. He ends his article with this statement (including a misspelled word):

The Yankees have been relatively quite this off-season, and if a deal can't be reached with Cliff Lee, it's the Boston Red Sox who will be the beneficiaries in the AL East.

As it is, Boston has done what's necessary to go toe to toe with the men in pinstripes, as if they couldn't before.

Boston is one move away from a checkmate call. This might solidify a World Series run, if not a title ring.

The article: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/5346 ... in-al-east

Hoob.

That site is awful. And yeah, it's gonna be an impressive lineup, but the Giants would like to remind you that your awesome lineup still has to hit great pitching to win that title.

It must suck to be a Sox fan today. The AGon trade fell thru and Jayson Werth is off the table.
