Yeah, I knew that. I was just making a general comment indicating that I probably shouldn't be talking baseball with the big guys.

When are the Rangers gonna finally get some pitching in here?

Somebody has to play LF. Murphy is very likely to regress from last year but they have zero options outside of a trade. Their corner outfield depth is bad.

I agree it's weak now, but I think options are out there. They're talking to Cody Ross and Michael Bourn per DKnobler. Bourn could play center and slide Martin to LF, which I love the idea of. I know Olt can play RF, not sure about LF. I imagine the first COF they are trying to replace is Cruz though and slide him to pretty much full time DH, but that's just a guess. It's also not that I hate Murphy or want him gone necessarily (I like him as a 4th OF), but I have a feeling when (if) he regresses, Wash will do with him what he did with Young.

I don't love Martin at left, his value is higher at CF. I do like Murphy as a 4th tho.

Also, it is extremely silly and frustrating that we have to make all these roster decisions based on what the manager may or may not do.

Bourn/Martin > Martin/Murphy is the way I look at it. Bourn/Martin would be a dynamite 2/3 of the OF. I wouldn't move Martin just to move him.

I agree his value is higher in CF, but you make the most of what you have available. That's why Kinsler is probably moving.

And I totally agree about "Wash-proofing" the team.

I don't see them getting Bourn though if his price stays at what it is, or even close to what it is. Ross is probably more likely and he would probably play RF.

What's Bourn's price? I was hearing 18 a year. I would do 1 year of that.

JD says Kinsler staying at 2B, Moreland at 1B, Profar at Round Rock. Definitely the right thing to do if they can't find the ABs for Profar.

What about eggs (and Olt)? Is he the RH platton half at 1B?

There hasn't been a comment on it. I don't want him platooning at 1B only though, because he'd be on the short PT side of that platoon. But Olt can play RF and 3B, so maybe they can find more ways to get him in there. I imagine he's the guy they're dangling out there in trades though.

Poor reporting by Rich Phillips.

From an ESPN story.

"Unless they had a regular spot, it doesn't necessarily make sense," Daniels said Monday. "I don't see these guys as bench players. It doesn't make sense."

So I guess right now they're both in the minors. Which is fine too.

I like Profar and Olt at Triple A but I don't like Mitch batting against lefties. Career .621 OPS, that's Face terrible.

Don't the Rangers get an extra year of control if they stay at AAA through May (or at least Profar)?

Yes.

There's a way to get Mitch only playing against righties and get Olt enough plate appearances, but you would have to be flexible with Olt and not give him a defined position. Assuming 1B, DH, 3B and RF are manned by 5 guys total (Olt, Mitch, Berkman, Beltre, Cruz), you have 648 games to use. Between the 5, that's about 130 games a piece. You have to assume Beltre will play more than 130 (barring injury), but you also assume Mitch only plays against righties, which is 110 (?). You would use Olt in a Mark Trumbo-type role, subbing for Beltre and Cruz when they need a rest and even giving Beltre and Cruz "half-days" when Berkman needs a rest, while at the same time playing him at 1B against LHP. Olt isn't a great defensive OF, but neither is Cruz. Considering Olt is one of your best 13 hitters and considering he turns 25 in 2013 ... I don't know.

You'd have to be able to plan ahead though and it might make Wash's head explode if he had to deal with it. Also, if they're planning on using AJP at DH some, it kinda blows up my plan too.

What's his point? It seems to be that the Rangers don't have a 5th starter. Ok.

Even though I think Harrison is due for a bit of a regression, I think 5/55 is less than the going rate for a pitcher who has done what he has the past two years. Good deal for Texas. If he continues to pitch like he did last year, then this is a great deal for Texas.
