Wash just said that "if the Mike Young ship is sinking, he was going to drown with him".

Sounds like a plan.

They DFA'd Gonzalez so Face is now the only back up middle infielder on the 25 man roster. Kick.Ass.

Preemptive move before an inevitable Profar call up?

I'd rather just wait for late september callups on profar plus profar is not on the 40 but now theres an open spot on the 40. Might be trade in the works or move off the waiver wire. Red Sox just put Nick Punto on waivers, bleh.

They could be enlarging the bullpenis since they have 20 games in 20 days coming up.

The prevailing wind on Twitter points toward moving up Profar being a dumb move since he might see a half dozen starts between now and the playoffs.

That would make sense. The last 20 in 20 stretch is what ended their hot start.

I wouldn't worry about the service clock on Profar. He'll be up soon anyway and probably for good. I don't want him planted on the bench though. I'd call him up when the AA season ends and if he does ok, I wouldn't hesitate to have him on the postseason roster. With 4 starters, you don't need 13 pitchers.

Nap to the DL with a strained quad. There goes a few strikeouts for the other guys, right there.

The Tigers looked like a team that didn't want any part of that heat. They looked awful. Oh, and look. The Angels lost again.

Apparently, Soto was huge in Darvish's turnaround yesterday, even though he wasn't great or anything. Soto signed for next year, Nap isn't. I'd like to have them both, but I'm guessing Nap's # has to come down quite a bit.

Awesome to see Dutch and Darvish both pitch better this past weeked. Those are the two guys that they're going to need in the playoffs.

Agree with the comment on Soto.

I worry about tonight for two reasons: Dempster scares me, and the Yankees are running out a spot starter to replace Sabathia. I fear the random spot starter.

Phelps is on a 60-75 pitch limit. Unless the Rangers free-swing, he'll be out by the 4th or 5th. Then you get Derek Lowe.

Is this due to pitch framing or he's just better at handling pitchers? I've heard Napoli wasn't that great at the framing and all.

Apparently, it was just communication with him about limiting the number of pitches he's throwing, so I guess B. Although, Napoli was supposedly great at handling pitchers last year and early this year.

He should not be playing every day. This link is for hitting and defense only and he is behind everyone on the team, including Brandon Snyder, Yorvit Torrealba, Mike Olt, Leonis Martin and Craig Gentry. Other than Martin, it's not even close. He's behind the pitchers too (as hitters), but they don't have enough at bats to qualify.

sabremetrics linky

Now that he's out of his awesome 9-28 streak (8 singles, 1 double, 1 walk), can he get a day off? Not complaining, just asking. #freekittenface

No idea why Wash thought turning Swisher to the left side was a good idea. He's 150 OPS points better as a lefty. Harrison only had 104 pitches thrown and was dealing. Wash loves his bullpen (which was my only gripe about him until this year). Swisher still hit a good pitch, though.

Also, just go ahead and send Olt down to the minors and call him up when the AA season is over. What a waste. Gentry's WAR is 2.9 in 200 plate appearances. Young's is -1.6. I can't take this anymore. I know they're 19 games over .500, but Wash isn't giving them the best chance to win. Why did Young play 1B and Mitch DH? Mitch gets days off all the time, he didn't need the half day last night. It didn't affect them last night, but that's not the point. The fact that people are calling him out on it is making him even more stubborn.

I'm amazed at the free pass that Wash gets on Twitter. All the knee jerkers were falling all over each other to call out Ogando as a failure and a choker. Never a mention of Wash putting him in a terrible situation.

:babyarm: Cooperstein called him a choker and got his ass handed to him. Something about Ogando pitching great against KC, but lousy against NYY and Det (which is a stupid argument anyway - Det and NYY are better than KC) and in the postseason. His numbers are much better against Det than KC and his postseason ERA is in the low 2s. He was bad against St. Louis, but so was just about everybody. Choker is such an overused term anyway.

It's also worth noting that no other Rangers reliever saw as much action as Ogando in the playoffs. That after a season of starting where it was generally thought that he was overworked (and there really wasn't a plan to start him going into spring training that year).
