Pyrzinski? Russell Moore?

You mean Russell Martin? The guy that just signed with Pitt?

Russ Martin sucks!

Rumors:

•Talk surfaced of a four-team blockbuster that would send Justin Upton to the Rangers, Asdrubal Cabrera to the Diamondbacks and prospects to the Indians. Late last night it was reported that the Mariners were one potential partner in the deal. They hope to use their prospects to ensure that Upton lands in Texas, because it would allow them the opportunity to sign Josh Hamilton.
•Speaking of Hamilton, the Mariners are indeed making a serious run at him. He's holding out to hear from his first choice, however -- the Rangers.
•Meanwhile, the Rangers are waiting for a decision from Zack Greinke, whose decision appears to be down to Texas or the Dodgers, barring the emergence of the dreaded mystery team. There's a growing sense that he'll end up with the Rangers, it seems.
•The Phillies and Rangers are in advanced talks about a trade for Michael Young.

Young would have to waive his 10/5 rights. He knows Wash will play him if he's on the team, unless a "high ranking official" has told Wash or Young that he will not be an every day player.

Texas would also have to eat more than half of the 16 mil owed to him, but even if Texas pays 10 mil, there's 6 mil that they didn't have before.

And from what it sounds like (and trust me I know you can't believe everything you read right now), the Rangers want Upton (in a trade where they didn't give up Andrus or Profar) and Greinke (signing). Their backup plan would be Hamilton (signing, 4 years max) and Shields (trade). But that's all speculation. JD has a way of surprising us.

Why you can't believe anything and I don't know why I waste my time with rumors.

8:06am: As of late last night Young had shown no interest in waiving his no-trade, tweets ESPN's Jayson Stark.

7:10am: There are signs that Young would be willing to waive his no-trade rights and accept a move to Philadelphia, writes Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com.

From an Angels board on the signing of Blanton (stolen from the BBTIA board)

Highlights:
"No..."
"Please be wrong."
"Yikes, Blanton is awful. Hopefully this is a minor league deal."
"NO. WHY??? NO."
"Maybe they needed someone to pitch batting practice."
"ERAs of 4 to 5 are good right?"
"TWO YEAR 15 MILLION WHAT THE &^@%???"
"I'm just going to assume 2/15 is wrong. Nobody is that f**king stupid."
"There is an option now? What is going on?"
"Lmao I feel so trolled right now."
"Did Tony Reagins take control of the FO again?!"
"Can't wait to watch Blanton in Arlington... Make sure you don't blink, he won't be in that long."
"I look forward to the Hitler video saying we signed Joe Blanton."
"This team's cholesterol level just went WAY up."
"The only positive here is that the team didn't change their name to the Pelicans today."
"How does someone go from a genius to a full blown retard within a few hours?"

Newberg's column on Prince Fielder signing rumors from last offseason shows how far you can haul most of these rumors. In 2 and half months of compiling all of the rumors, Detroit was never mentioned one single time.

Yankees Checking In On Josh Hamilton
By Ben Nicholson-Smith [December 7 at 7:41am CST]
The Winter Meetings are over and the top free agent position player remains unsigned. Josh Hamilton has drawn serious interest from the Mariners and Rangers, and the Red Sox continue checking in on the outfielder. As it turns out, there's at least one other American League team interested...

•A rival general manager says Yankees people other than GM Brian Cashman are quietly running a background check on Hamilton, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports (on Twitter). Jim Bowden of ESPN and MLB Network Radio recently suggested the Yankees should be viewed as a potential destination for Hamilton. However, the team aims to lower payroll below $189MM by 2014, so some creativity would be required to add a premium player such as Hamilton.
•Joel Sherman of the New York Post "will only believe the Yankees are truly out" on Hamilton when he's at a press conference wearing another team's jersey. While GM Brian Cashman has discussed the importance of remaining patient, Sherman senses that the Yankees are "incredibly touchy" to recent criticism and could pursue the slugging outfielder.

Who's the rival GM and how would he know this info about NYY? It would have to be the Cincy GM or Jon Daniels, right? They're the only two that could provide a background check. The whole first bullet point is sketchy. I hate this time of year, but love it at the same time. It's all so stupid.

Peter Gammons: If you don't believe the multi-team Upton trade talk, Wednesday night a Rangers official called an Astros officisl and said, "we got Upton."

Well then they lost her.

Ben Rogers: "WAIT! Source just called who talked to Gammons, who said: "They thought they had him, but it unraveled." Not sure why he didn't tweet that."

I quit.

I wonder why a Rangers official would call the Astros about it in the first place, unless they REALLY wanna do some Silver Boot taunting.

Adam J. Morris ‏@lonestarball

The Dodgers are currently on the hook for approximately $811,000,000 in salary obligations between now and 2018.

Hoob's take on this: Dayum.

Hoob's second take on this: This isn't fantasy baseball. I look forward to watching them fail.

I get that Dickey is coming off of a career and all indications are that he is a hell of guy, but he's only 3 seasons removed from being pretty, pretty terrible. I know he's only locked up for a season at a little more than 3 mil. I would be skeptical of giving up much for a gimmick guy that's 38 years old.

Dbacks get SS Didi Gregorious from Indians. Meaning they don't need to trade Upton for a SS now.

also means they don't need to trade Upton at all now.
this from a well connected Phoenix media guy:
John Gambadoro ‏@Gambo620
Justin Upton will not be traded. Arizona will not be entertaining any more offers for Upton’s services. He is staying a Dback.

Hamilton goes to the Angels 5/125

After Fielder's ridiculous contract nothing surpises me anymore. I look forward to watching Josh destroy the Angels clubhouse for the next 5 years. That is, when he's not hurt.
