Strictly a formality in case he signs elsewhere.

Why didn't the rangers offer arbitration to Gonzalez? I thought he pitched well down the stretch. Good riddance to oliver tho.

Gonzalez wasn't good enough to qualify for draft pick compensation and he has more than 6 yrs major league service, so no arbitration would happen. My guess is the Rangers still try to re-sign him.

Oliver is now type B, which under the new CBA (he was type A until 3 days ago when they changed the qualifications in the new CBA), a team that signs Oliver wouldn't have to give up a draft pick, but Texas would get a supplemental pick for losing him. When he was type A, a team that signed him would have had to give up their first and no way would anyone do that for Oliver. Honestly, I think the Rangers may look at bringing him back too.

Sooooo, the Red Sox make Bobby V's Restaurant their next manager.

On my way home tonight I heard a Boston writer talk about how loaded this team is and they just needed the right person to guide the ship. Immediately I pictured some nerdy guy jacking off to a picture of Jacoby Ellsbury while typing his stories on a Macbook Pro.

He even mentioned how deep their pitching is, which caused me to swerve off the road.

Only Bobby V has the balls to ban fried chicken from the clubhouse.

Teagarden traded to Balt.

That catching quartet of Laird, Salty, Max Ramirez and Teagarden really worked out.

The Nationals appear to be all in for CJ. Marlins signed Heath Bell? Strange.

It's just shitty teams trying to make a big splash. The Nats should know better after signing Werth.

Reyes goes to the Marlins. Dumbasses. The Mets were right to let him go.

Bell and Reyes seem to be odd signings for a team that looks like they're a long way off. Maybe they're closer than I think. They do have some solid young talent and if Hanley shows back up next year, Reyes, Bonafacio, Hanley, Stanton, Morrison is a pretty good top 5.

C.J. Wilson Holds Offers From Four Clubs
By Zach Links [December 4 at 11:25pm CST]
11:25pm: Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times (via Twitter) is getting the sense that the Angels' offer to Wilson won't top the five-year, $85MM deal that Jered Weaver got. Mark Buehrle and Hiroki Kuroda could be attractive alternatives for the Halos.

9:26pm: Wilson has offers from the Angels, Marlins, and two other clubs, sources tell Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com (via Twitter).

8:30pm: Marlins still have an offer out to Wilson, tweets Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com.

7:42pm: Pitcher C.J. Wilson is not a top target for the Nationals, tweets MLB.com's Bill Ladson. One person told Ladson that the left-hander isn't really on the club's radar screen.

5:41pm: Wilson's suitors include the Nationals, Marlins, Rangers, Angels, and Red Sox as the meetings commence, sources tell Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports (via Twitter).

10:53am: Others teams are viewing the Nationals as the early favorite to land C.J. Wilson, according to Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated (via Twitter). The Nationals, along with the Marlins and Blue Jays, are seen as probable big spenders at the meetings.

Furthermore, Heyman tweets that he sees Wilson leaving Texas unless the left-hander is willing to cut his $120MM asking price in half as the club seems comfortable with filling out its rotation from within. Yesterday, Heyman reported that the Rangers haven't been making any progress with Wilson.

• According to Joe Cowley (Chicago Sun-Times), three teams have made three-year proposals to Mark Buehrle “in the monetary range that he is seeking,” and though none of the three teams had agreed to include no-trade protection, two of them – both National League clubs – were “close to including that in their offers.” Though the White Sox are not the third team, Cowley writes, Buehrle intends to talk to Chicago before deciding to sign elsewhere.

• Ken Rosenthal (Fox Sports) believes he knows the three teams involved in the Cowley report: Miami, Washington, and Texas. Rosenthal predicted this morning on MLB Network that the Buehrle offers are in the three-year, $12-14 million AAV range. Jon Heyman (CBS Sports), who maintains that 14 teams are in on the lefthander, believes $14 million per year is the Buehrle target.

:babyarm: His name is harder to spell though. I always get it wrong when I google him.

Sounds like a no trade clause may get it done. He wants 14 per. For 3 years, I'd go 15 per + the no trade clause.

It's time.

The Marlins have a 10-year offer out to Pujols. They're officially insane.

I also can't get used to calling them Miami.

From Buster Olney:
Reports from South Florida are that Marlins can build $100 payroll. If they sign Pujols for $25m a year, they'd be at $90m for six players. Remember when Rangers/Tom Hicks jumped out with huge dollars on A-Rod, based on real estate speculation. Hicks wound up in bankruptcy.

Someone suggested on Twitter that the Rangers wouldn't go for a 4th year for Buehrle and that's what took them out of the hunt. Someone with baseball knowledge help me out: as hot as Buehrle was not so long ago, what makes the guy so much scarier at 36 than 35?

Unconfirmed report that CJ is trying to get a 6th year from LAA before deciding whether to sign with ... The Marlins.

Whoever signs him will rue the day. The guy has ONE year starting, falls apart in every high pressure game he's in, and teams are going to throw 5 or 6 years at him? It's another example of owners not being able to control themselves.
