When I asked about the busted out rear window on the left side back door of the late model Chevy Astro van, Ed, the handyman, just shrugged his shoulders. "I had an accident," he started before trailing off, "don't be hatin." Scrawled on the side of his hubcap free, faded out white van was "Dirty Deedz Handyman Services." The amateur lettering was a color I'd describe as a sparkling sapphire. (Note: always be wary of businesses that use the letter z in place of s) A smaller font in a kind of italic read "done dirt cheap." (Note II: or also of businesses inspired by AC/DC songs). The warning signs were there when he showed up to give me a quote on cleaning my gutters, but I know before going into it that any kind of handyman or "chores around the house people" are a flaky bunch and shifty in nature. Ed would not break the mold.
