Something like this was bound to happen. It was a betta fish that he got a few months ago at his school carnival when he nagged his mom for it and she relented. Of course, she got pissy when I did a little research and realized the thing needed about $50 worth of stuff for proper care, so I only got a 1 gallon tank to save money and a headache, though the fish needs more than that to thrive. I think what happened was the new bubbly oxygenator thing Tit Jr got him was too close to the heater due to cramped quarters, and the heater couldn't get a decent reading on the water temp so it kept heating. It got up to 86 in there and he could only handle 82 so he died.

The lesson we learn here is don't skimp on the fish care.

Is it not buy only cold water fish?

Heaters probably aren't necessary in a tank that small. My kid has a 4 gallon with a betta, with no heater and the fish is very active. They are very sturdy fish. Downside is you can't put them other fish.

If we ever get this house sold and I have a spot in the new house, I'll probably get a 75+ gallon tank. I'll do a blog on it to spark the forum when the time comes.

$50 worth of equipment for a betta? My mom kept one for alive for a couple of years in an oversized highball glass with a couple of pieces of fake coral in the bottom.

Shittier: The only provisions on the vanity were tier 4 old lady lotion brand Rose Milk which absorbs far too quickly into the shaft skin greatly rendering its lubing properties and brought down the entire experience.

A friend once told me that there are several soaps that work well for this.

Would one of those decorative fish soaps work?

A few years ago we got gammita a beta fish. We put it in a Little Mermaid fish tank. Lasted a week.

This talk completely goes against what I read on bettafish.com. Anyway, we're getting him a couple of new non-betta fishes as a replacement. I bet they die real fast.

I guess my mistake was listening to a bunch of lonely fat women on the subject, but it's not like somey advertised his local expertise in a convenient sig line or anything.
