On Wednesday, I get to load up the family truckster and drive our asses to Florida. The over/under on the number of times I have to stop and beat some fighting little shits in the back seat is 5 on the first day, 6 on the second.

Thank God both of our parents live within 10 minutes from our house.

That can be nice. My brother is bringing his family down there from Virginia. So two sets of four have to get their asses to southern Florida instead of two old folks buying a couple plane tickets to come see us. It pisses us off when we stop and think about it.

I wouldn't do it. I would pay for their flights to come see us if it meant I didn't have to go there. My parents both live about 45 minutes away. Not too far for holidays and not too close where they come over every day.

When we were kids, we ran off to another room (or out in the cold) to play. We didn't want to stay with the adults and they wouldn't have let us, anyway.

These days, the kids stay in the living room with us and want to engage in talk with the adults. None of us can engage in guy talk and it is a beating.

Yes. And there's only two bathrooms. Last time we did this, we got served some undercooked chicken at dinnertime. My bowels woke me up around 2:30 in the morning notifying me of a sudden emergency, so I headed to the one community bathroom they have and found it locked. Turns out genetically I got awesome hair, but my brother got the better bowel alarm. With no other option outside of the kitchen sink, I found myself in the backyard ready to drop and release on a nice, cool patch of dewy grass. Fortunately, it didn't come to that, as I saw the bathroom light switch off and I was able to make it to the toilet to properly release this ass demon. So yeah, it can really suck.

The ass demons. I'm going to name my next band that. To my surprise, nobody has that domain. Yet.

A sense of foreboding is the precursor for all of my holiday family meals.

I made it to work today but I feel worse than I did yesterday. My goal is to get all of my co workers sick so I can work alone and get some shit did.
