I followed the link from Gordo's site and that was one helluva a punch. Excessive? Good question. I don't understand why the 2 girls, when summoned by the officer for jaywalking (we can argue the seriousness that crime later), felt it perfectly ok to not only ignore the officer's instructions but then feel like they can resist being detained. I read the comments and felt this person summed it up nicely:

At the beginning you have an officer attempting to restrain a disorderly person. He is using minimal force and from close looking you can see he is using standard arm locks. These are used to either cuff a suspect or get them to stop and get them calm so you can issue the summons. So at this point no issue with the officer. Miss blue shirt is committing a misdemeanor of resisting. Preceding charge is now not a point since it has progressed. Resisting is a serious charge and becomes its own issue.

Now we have the friend who jumps in. Second crime by another party. Interfering with the enforcement of an officer or aiding and embedding a criminal if you want to go to the extreme.

At :25 the cop and blue shirt are separated by pink shirt and both are pushed back a little by pink shirt. This is aggression and assault of an officer.

At :28 The officer thinks and grabs pink shirts right forearm. We can assume the intent was to detain since his right arm is down and out not up and clenched yet.

At: 29 - :30 The pink shirt girl reacts to the officers grasp . If you watch closely she pivots her left foot back while raising her left arm (not clenched but open fisted) The arm disappears off screen as she pivots. In this instant the officers right arm cocks back and proceeds to punch pink girl 1 time.

:30 on the officer attempts to detain the pink shirt with similar arm locks but lets her go to restart the detainment of the blue shirt.

In that 5 second span the officer makes what appears to be a proper choice. Even though it was a female if she struck the officer rite or enough to stun his gun or other weapons could become her's to use against him. He used the minimal force to subdue her and maintain the dominance he is required to maintain.

The cop was justified. I don't care what the citation was for. One was resisting then another jumped in. He's gotta protect himself in that situation. They're lucky no one was tasered.

After I listened to the Musers go on about how bad the officer acted I too checked it out. I gotta say the officer is justified here. That chick was laying hands on him and you just can't do that.

The only problem with the video was that cop was having way too hard of a time corralling that bitch. A real cop would have face planted that slunt on the hood of his car and had her in the back in 5 seconds.
