Trying to decide whether to pull the trigger:

Good:
Fast as shit interweb
lots of TV channels with no extra compression
good discount for TV+35/35 internet

Fucked up:
2 year contract with no 30 day tryout period.
Bigass ETF (early term. fee)
Shitty DVR's
Apparently their almost out of bandwidth, so few new channels.

equipment in general is sketchy. and forget about responsive customer service (but that probably applies to all of them). and prepare to be hidden fee'd to holy hell. Other than that... it's pretty good. Don't overrate the bundles though. They make em sound good, but somehow the money we "save" is always put back on the bill in some other mysterious way.

I still like it, but admittedly, I can't compare to TW or Comcast since I've never seen those in action. I do like it better than either satellite provider, though. Yeah, the DVR kinda sucks, but it records shows and that's all I need it for. It hasn't failed me yet. The internet kicks all kinds of ass. Outages are rare, and if they happen, they're quickly fixed.

Tit's dead on. I haven't had any outages that I know of yet. (every few months I have to reboot the router because the wifi shit gets all n-bombed up, but big deal)
The DVR lacks. The controls don't respond quickly enough. But, eh, who cares. Like Mr. Whistler says, it records fine, and that's all you need.
POop!

TWC is good but they still don't have enough HD channels. DVR sucks. Best DVR on the market in Dish Network, hands down.

yah, thats what i'm afraid of. I've got dish now and the dvr's are great.

I'm still leaning towards trying it, but i'm thinking i'll want to dump the dvr pretty quick and get some tivo's with some smartcards. Might keep one of their basic boxes for on demand

The On-Demand is pretty awesome. I've never used it for movies, but I've caught up on a lot of shows with it.

This is a good point. You're probably never going to utilize the potential speed of your connection with FIOS. The numbers are great to think about, but i'm not sure how much you'd miss it if you "downgraded" from FIOS to dsl.

Don't forget to investigate Clear. That shit looks promising.

The interface is pretty horrendous... especially combined with the unresponsive controls. I can't wait to move back into AT&T territory and get me some Uverse again. But you get used to FIOS and the total package probably outweighs the negatives... just be mindful of the money. I'd swear there's a shell game involved.

Yeh, I'd never notice going from a 'Vette to my Toaster car. I'll still be able to go 200 mph. :notsure:

I don't know how you do it. If my favorite team was out of market, I would have to have DTV to watch the regular season games.

We were fed up with DTV a couple of months ago because they wanted to charge us to come fix our picture, so we called up FIOS and were going to roll with them. DTV made us some ridiculously good offers, so we stuck around and cancelled our FIOS before they came out. So now I get to see the Skins go 6-10 this year. Reading about the DVRs and hidden fees, I'm glad we did, even though FIOS was still cheaper. We do use Verizon for internet though.

For out of market games, I got the MLB package online and I watch them on meh lappy. I soured on DTV when I was just getting into HD and they had around 10 HD channels and I had to keep resetting my receiver because only 2-3 of those channels would be listed. FIOS TV came to town and I jumped right on it. DTV had Tivo, which was cool because it made cute noises when you hit a button, but I quickly learned to live without that. A bad windstorm eventually blew the DTV dish off the side of the house. Glad I wasn't using it anymore.

Do any HDDVRs really work that great? I think the DTV one is pretty subpar.

kinda bad metaphor. If you could go 200mph, but 95% of the roads will only allow you to go 80, you really gonna notice a big difference in a car that tops out at 75?

In their defense the HD issue was just about solved about a year and a half ago. And the best part is that they kept the HD versions on a channel right next to the SD versions (kinda like over the air TV does)...so it's tons easier to find than with FIOS or Uverse.
