I'm a dad and I love my kids, and I have a great relationship with my own dad, but I still have a hard time giving a shit about Father's Day.

Agreed, but if it means I get to lie on the couch and drink beer and watch baseball all day, without getting nagged, I'm going to take advantage.

Part of our neighborhood is being evacuated. My area is safe. I'm thinking either it's a gas leak or ISIS.

I've always heard it's great but I've never been. What's a good way to spend a 3 day weekend down there?

Shower daily. Preferably in the bathroom in your room.

Bo Jackson is in football this season. He's in the 8th grade and practice is before school through 1st period. So, he has to take a shower. He thought he was just going to wear some swim trunk in the shower. However, the coaches were having no part of that. He texted me 'Dad, they made us all get naked and take a shower!!'. I forgot how traumatic your first time in the boys shower was. He wanted to quit when he got home. It's Thursday now and he isn't bitching about it anymore. He is fine.

As a wee lad, I had to shower/take baths with my brother. I have otherwise never showered with a dude. I have showered with several women though.

My college dorm had communal showers. I never thought anything about it. It was just the way it was.

Probably the first time I went to Scout Camp so maybe 11 or 12? Scout Camp sucked. Who the hell would willingly live in a surplus army tent for a week in the middle of summer?

This would be a good time for someone to tell the story about the guy that used to get made fun of here for taking bubble baths.

Yesterday evening, for the second time this year, the wife nailed a city issued trash can in the alley and took out her passenger side mirror. It is unknown if she hit a trash can meant for regular trash or a recycling trash can. The regular trash cans are grey. Do you spell gray with an a or an e? I always spell it with an e. The recycling cans are blue. Our trash pick up day is Tuesday, btw.

I lease the blue recycle bin. Euless doesn't make trash bins available so we just put bags out. Maybe one day I'll buy a bin. We have recycle pick up on Monday, and trash is picked up Monday and Thursday. Which reminds me I forgot to take out the trash this morning. FML

Thursday is my trash day, and yes, I remembered to put the bins out this morning (grey = trash, blue = recycle). Thursday is also our watering day. We can do Sundays too. My lawn looks pretty good this year. Only a couple of small brown patches near the curb in front. A lawn service helps. We use TruGreen.

Our watering day is Friday. Because of all the rain, we can also water on Tuesdays too, which I take advantage of. I dumped TruGreen and I do it myself. I don't trust those guys and it's pretty easy to do. My front lawn is the best on the street, FYI. The back is starting to get brown and I have a couple of patches where rabbits have dug the grass up. Pisses me damn hell off. They also shit like a mother fucker back there. I put 2X4s all along the fence so they couldn't sneak under. Can't do that with the front though - somehow they've left it alone. I've seen some other homes in the neighborhood that aren't so lucky. The ones that do get in the back (there is one spot for them to get under still) will feel the wrath of my dogs if I let them out. One rabbit couldn't find the opening back out and my schneagle chased it for a while and eventually got it. Good puppy dog. I threw the dead rabbit over the fence and some vultures (I think?) were eating at it the next day. My son called them dinosaurs. They were giant. We had a hawk on our mailbox the other day. Also, someone said they had an armadillo in their yard. My mowers come on Fridays. So do my housecleaners. So combine those with trash pick up and I feel pretty accomplished on Friday, without having to do anything.

I used to have mowers, but now I have an able-bodied boy who wants video games. He mows now. I get to be my dad and get on his ass when he misses a spot.

I've always done my own mowing. I do outsource fall yard chores. Eff a bunch of leaf raking and bagging.

I don't know if I have a watering day or not. I water in the wee hours of the morning when busybodies are still in bed so I don't think I'm gonna get tattled on anytime soon.

I had a beautiful lawn in June after we had all of the rain. Unfortunately I also had a busted irrigation pipe that took my lazy ass a month to get around to fixing. During that time I could see my lawn starting to suffer but I figured it would spring back to life as soon as I ran the first watering cycle. I set it up on a 5 day thinking that would be fine. After a couple of weeks it was still getting worse so I upped the watering cycle to every 3 days. A couple of weeks after that I still had a lot of brown grass and one area were it was REALLY dry. I started watering everyday, sometimes twice. It's been a couple of weeks hence and the lawn looks like it's starting to bounce back. That one area that was really bad hasn't turned 100% green yet but it looks like it's on its way. Yesterday's and this morning's soaking rain should really help. I'm gonna see if every 3 days will be okay for the rest of September until the October rains starts.

I dig mowing and edging and all that. It's part of the fun of being a homeowner.

You and I have a different definition of "fun". Unless by "fun", you mean "beating". I did it for the first 3 years of homeownership. Never again, hopefully.

Mowing is a beating. I kinda hoped Tit Jr would hate mowing and we could go back to a service, but he doesn't mind a little work as long as he's getting paid. I still get to edge and trim. Not a fan.
