You're not serious, right? Texas Stadium was a major landmark and helped define the metroplex for almost 40 years. I think having it lead newscasts in this area on the day it was imploded shouldn't be considered overkill.

You make it sound like that was the only covereage it got. It was the lead story on the newscasts for a week prior and every channel ran a 1 hour pregame show to the implosion. WFAA ran with it for the first 10 minutes of their 10:00 news last night, 15 hours after the deed was done.
