It was weird. I keep hearing Morgan Freeman's voice about how some birds feathers are too bright.

Jake replaces Bob.

When new show names are announced, I’ll have Prez update the forums.

Good grief the seat sniffers forum is aflame. I looked at it today at around 4:30 and choked on my food from laughing at all the threads about it.

Tonight, some of those threads have disappeared including one chastising the others for starting all of those threads on the subject. I giggled and immediately thought of GIML.

As I type this, there is a "hardline announcement megathread" with 380 comments. When I saw it, I immediately said out loud, "mother....fucker."

The seat sniffer forum has a trailer for a Mike Rhyner documentary. I watched it. There was a scene in the trailer in Mike's apartment I guess showing the Ticket bobbleheads displayed on a shelf. I forgot these were ever a thing. A further google search revealed there are ticket bobbleheads for sale on ebay. Unreal. They range in pricing but i saw one of the Hammer asking around $225. They're probably all on PSC's watch list.

Of all the doilies in PSC's extensive doily collection, her most prized was the butterfly garden pattern she crafted years ago with her nephew. With gloved hands, she carefully extracted it from the hidden drawer of her Louis XV French style accent table, a piece she scored from booth 37 at the Forestwood Antique Mall. With determined concentration, she centered her crochet masterpiece on the freshly Pledged fruitwood veneer top. It was a sturdy piece, constructed from solid beechwood, but she still tested to make sure it would not wobble. In her mind she could already see how she would arrange the bobbleheaded Musers. Craig in the middle of the petite flower center, Gordon in the bottom left atop a butterfly, and JubJub bottom right, edged in flowers.

The auction would be ending in 17 hrs.

As for the old grey wolf and the destitute hammer, well, she didn't give two wits about them or their replica dolls. To heck with the both of them. Quit liking them after an incident she didn't care to reflect on at Ticketstock 2001. She already owned their bobbleheads anyway. Got them from that same Ticketstock. They were placed down the hall, in a bathroom seldom used, on top of an orange shag carpeted tank lid. She had transformed the pair into a couple of toilet paper dolls long ago. The float ball height needed adjusting or perhaps it was the valve seat. At any rate, when the toilet would spontaneously run, their crochet covers would ever so slighty shake like hula dancer skirts. This pleased her.

So 6 months after his hearts and flowers retirement where everyone insisted there was no sordid back story, Rhyner goes on a podcast with Julie Dobbs and Emily Jones and says that he didn't like the direction the station was going and bailed out because there wasn't a place for him there anymore?

And there's trailers out for a documentary about him.

Rhynes just tweeted a vid of him walking back to the chair he walked away from in his “retirement” video.

Ben and Skin (they’re already on KEGL anyway) and Jeff Cavanaugh also involved. Doodoo Danny also rumored to be involved.

This is nuts. I’ll probably listen for a minute to hear Rhynes, but he was kinda checked out at the end of his Ticket time anyway. The rest do not interest me.

This feels like when Jimmy went to Miami.

I wonder if Rhyner called Cat/Dan and let them know what was going on an give them an opportunity to out bid KEGL. Or maybe this is just Mike's ego wondering if he can do it again. I can answer that: no. especially not with who they have on board. And even then... at this point I think a lot of people just root for the laundry.

I saw a tweet suggesting that Rhyner didn't retire but bailed on the Ticket because he was tired of big corporate radio. Someone quickly pointed out that 97.1 is owned by the largest radio broadcast company in the US.

The scuttlebutt is that Grubes may be joining too, as a producer. You may remember Grubes from removerowdy.com and the JackSox.

I'm interested to see how much shade is thrown towards the Ticket by the Mike & Mike show, but not enough to actually listen. I'm sure I'll read all about it in the Ticket groups.

Post subject:  Re: So long, keep jammin', and we'll see ya!

I listened for a couple of hours yesterday. (It kicked off at 3 PM)

The first hour was mostly Sirois fawning all over Rhyner. The 2nd hour they had the morning show in - Jeff Cavanaugh, Kevin Turner, Julie Dobbs. Lots of trying real hard. That show seems completely uninteresting. They did have dinosaur talk for a bit, which I moderately enjoyed. Ben and Skin came on at 5:00 and I had to punch out, because Ben is a massive beating.

Lots of Ticket mentions. They definitely peeled the curtain back a bit. The big thing seemed to be that Cumulus/The Ticket told them what they could/couldn’t talk about, but they have complete freedom at The Freak. Rhyner was definitely engaged (day 1). Grubes apparently came on after Ben and Skin. I’m surprised he gave up his Rangers gig for radio.

I’ll probably listen again today just to see what the actual format (lifestyle talk) is/means, but only out of curiosity.

I heard the mix with the morning show and bailed immediately. It was overly enthusiastic.

I never could tell Ben and Skin apart on the radio. I’ve seen Skin in real life before outside at the AAC. He’s not lacking in self confidence. I think both suck pretty equally but am always a little impressed by how people with seemingly big bags of nothing can keep getting plum roles.
What kind of nickname is skin anyway?

I had to go on a dog food run between 6&7 last night and mike, mike, and Grubes were a good listen. I bought a bag of Fromm, pork and applesauce flavor. Isn’t that swell?

Post subject:  Re: So long, keep jammin', and we'll see ya!

There was a column in the Morning News yesterday that delved into the relationship with the Ticket. It's behind the paywall, but there's excerpts out there if you go looking. Basically Cat and Corby were blindsided by the whole thing. As Corby points out, Rhyner was fawned over in retirement and on the station on a fairly regular basis. There's a line in there where Rhyner says that he was minimalized and marginalized by everyone at the station. He pretty much did that to himself by checking out for the last few years.

As for "complete freedom", I'll believe it when I see it. Other than the racist/homophobic/misogynistic tones that have waned in recent years, what were they not talking about? If that's the talk they were missing, I think they'll find that their new corporate overlords won't be much different.

Post subject:  Re: So long, keep jammin', and we'll see ya!

I listened to it a little yesterday. It was very Kidd Kraddock high tempo non-stop with rebellious "we can say what we want" over tones. Nothing sounded like anything I'd want to listen to on a daily basis.

I heard the segment with Grubes. I thought he was going to be pulling double duty working at the station and the Rangers but nope, he quit the Rangers. He also said he was leaving the Rangers anyway because he accepted a job with Bally but he renigged on that to go to the station. I hope didn't burn any bridges and he's seriously getting paid because that station may not be around for very long.
