James Street, legendary U.T. quarterback, died today. He was something like 65 or thereabouts.

He was young Hoob's first college hero and led them to a national championship in 1969. He also beat that dumbass Theismann in the 1970 Cotton Bowl.

His son is Huston Street, the MLB pitcher.

Paul Blair, a key player in the Orioles success in the late 60s. I don't remember him playing for the Yanks, but he won two rings with them, too. He won four rings in all. Definitely in.

I remember him as a Yank mainly because me and my brother used to play APBA Baseball when we were kids before the Internet and cable TV. He'd always be the Yankees and I was whoever they were playing that day. In our set from the 1978 season, Paul Blair was a member of the Yankee bench who was rarely used. Anyhoo, one day we were playing and it was the 9th inning and my team was up by one run. He managed to get a runner to 3rd with one out and he was looking to tie the game, so he brought in Paul Blair who had some solid bunting stats. My brother was all cited about small-balling his way to a win. One roll of the dice later and Paul Blair popped his bunt into the air, and the 3rd baseman caught it on the fly and stepped on 3rd for an easy double play and the end of the game. This resulted in gnashed teeth, a flipped board, and me picking up all the pieces to the game while my brother stormed off and bitched for the rest of the Goddamned day about Paul Blair to anyone who would listen. So that's my Paul Blair story. #coolstorybro

Andy Granatelli died. He was the owner of Mario Andretti's winning car in the 1969 Indy 500. It was Andretti's only win in the race. He also had the winning car in the deathy 1973 race, when Gordon Johncock won.

For young Hoob, his name was associated with STP treatments. Him kissing Andretti on the cheek on their commercials was played hundreds of times on TV. Oh, and 9 year old Hoob always called him Andy Granatallywacker.

He was known as a rotund fellow. I can't believe he lived to be 90. A tribute to modern medicine, I guess.

A few days ago I wandered off on a Wikipedia wormhole and ended up reading about Little Jimmy Dickens. I thought to myself, "this guy is still alive?" It never occurred to me to include him in the death pool, and I might not have anyway due to his age.

He died today at 94. He was 4' 11". Had a wife and everything. I wonder what her height was. I wonder if she ever used the term "spinner."

As a kid, I watched a lot of game shows in the 60s and early 70s. A panelist on some of them was Bess Myerson. She was a Miss America in 1945 and I had no idea.

At the time, little Hoob had no idea about Jews and all of that stuff. She was Jewish and won the title in 1945. Think about that.

After reading the article about her, I learned that she had run into a few controversies later in life. She had an affair with some guy 20 years younger than her. After that little tidbit, I have one thing to say: I like her.

Geoffrey Lewis has passed.

Lewis was a great character actor who you'll recognize from Clint Eastwood movies. He was also the father of that skank, Juliette.

WFAA posted this update on Facebook yesterday and got ROASTED for "dirt digging" and "why can't the family just grieve in peace" posts. It was pretty weird how many people were so upset that a news organization reported news.

I really hate people like this. Coming a close second to them are the "why is this news" dumb fucks.
