According to the WSJ, the tablet will be pretty much what we expected: movies, TV shows, games, browsing, books, textbooks and newspapers. WSJ also mentions two different material finishes for the tablet, and if we know Apple, they'll only have one; the two are just final prototypes so that Jobs can decide which one he likes more.

So it's good to hear that at least some of the rumored features might be delivered, but that $1000 price seems a bit high.

Why would rich snobby liberals be able to afford them over rich snobby conservatives? They're both rich, so they'll both be able to afford them.

Let's take a closer look at the invite, which is, again, to "come see our latest creation." Using the word "creation" is telling in both its vagueness and its specificity: It says it's something new. Apple likes playing with words, too—remember the "something's in the air" tagline for the event they introduced the MacBook Air, their latest truly new product?

I think you're focusing on the wrong word. With all of the other tablets already announced, Apple's newest product will no doubt be called the iLate.

This press conference could be a big deal, talk of the newest iphone, the iphone no longer being exclusive to at&t and the iPad.

pretty much what they delivered, which is apple's answer to a netbook/ereader.

So I ask again, who's going to buy this? It's doesn't' have a keyboard so it can't replace a notebook/netbook. It's too big to fit in your pocket so you can't use it as a pmp. It's got an lcd screen so you can't use it as a true ebook reader... who the hell is going to buy this?

I guess this is Apple's way of getting in on the netbook craze (I use the word "craze" loosely), but I still don't get who buys it. If you have an iphone, what good is this thing to you? I picked up a decent Toshiba laptop from Best Buy of all places for just a shade less than the cost of the low end iPad and it will do a hell of a lot more than Steve Jobs marketing orgasm.
