Congrats. It's a good move, unless you bought a real shithole.

How long do you water your lawn? How do I win lawn of the month? Give me lawn hints

I do 15-20 minutes per zone twice a week. Looks good. I also pay for a lawn service to fertilize and squirt for weeds 8 or so times a year. Worth it.

Set the zones with fixed location sprinkler heads to 10 minutes. If you have any zones with oscillating heads (these are usually in the backyard) set those for 20 minutes.

:babyarm:

I cannot agree more about the fertilization and weed killing. It makes a big difference in how the yard looks. If you don't know how to look at a weed and what to put on it, hire somebody to do it. Don't guess.

Also, unless your neighbor has perfect grass, don't listen to his advice on fertilization and weed killing, either.

Consider candlelight ambiance on a larger scale, and yes, I'm talking about tiki torches. You will want to fill them with a refreshing citronella fluid which studies have shown can somewhat help ward off mosquitoes because the smoke can confuse the bugs and prevent them from smelling you.

Not sure if it organically kills them though.

10 minutes per zone + Scott's weed n feed once a year (after the last freeze) if your lawn is already in good shape. Twice if your lawn is shit. During the hot months you'll need to water at least twice a week, even if you're under water restrictions. Set it to run overnight so nosy neighbors don't get bent out of shape for breaking the law.

Yeah, it's a small lawn and doesn't have a sprinkler system

My rich ass sister has some service that does an organic spray for her yard. It's something with garlic because her yard smells like an Olive Garden

After a summer of moving sprinklers around the yard, you're gonna want a sprinkler system.

And while I'm not a fan of Olive Garden, I'd love a yard that smells like unlimited soup, salad, and breadsticks.

I got two hoses for both sides of the house. Watered it for a while with a regular 15 buck sprinkler head then got a few areas with just a spray attachment by hand.

Calming. Serene.

Could be hot for a bunch of reasons. I got a hot room above the garage because it's above the garage.
Your room could be hot because of bad insulation.
Could be because the sun hits it all day.
Could be a portal to Hell beneath the floorboards.
What we need is more details.

We had a hot room for years because of a bay window that let in a lot of light late in the day and a weak, old A/C. Replacing the A/C made all the difference in the world.

:babyarm: this is a slam dunkaroo answer to those tricky situational job interview questions these days that ask you to "describe a time when you were confronted with a problem and how did you resolve it" type scenario.

Yeah, it's upstairs in a 1 zone AC house. We may need to update the AC. It's our bedroom.

What's crazy is it's hotter in that room and it changes when you step out into the hallway. Gonna get up in the attick and check the ducts if a volume dampener is closed or something

I hate going in attics. Newer houses aren't as bad when they plywood floor a lot of it but those older ones are creepy.

Post subject:  Re: Spaz's Blog of Home Ownership

My attic is completely useless. No ladder access. No plywood floors. Can't store anything up there. I'll take a creepy one as long as it's useful.

I didn't get my job slinging monkey shit using my good looks and math skills.

I have plywood decking over my garage and I store all of the Christmas decor there. The rest of the house is pretty useless because of the a/c ducts and a vaulted ceiling in the living room.

Does anyone else store stuff in their attic?

I always used to store stuff in mine. Christmas decorations. Unwanted furniture. Shit that I was hiding from the wife.

Here's another one, bitching about all the street parking (It's LA, hello! Parking is at a premium)

I can speak for my home and my neighbors that every day and night there are cars parked in front of my house and our gardeners cannot clean the leaves from the curb area.
