Well boys, add me to the list of forum members checking out. Your old pal greggo's lifestyle finally caught up with him. All of the work I did outdoors when installing signs has cause what the doc said was the "world's smallest basal cell" in the corner of my nose. So I got me an appt with a surgeon in Plano on the 15th to check it out. I'm gonna go ahead and shave my head this weekend so I don't suffer the embarrassment of having clumps of hair randomly fall out from the kemo.

Sounds like a blackhead, gam. You can just squeeze it.

Seriously, though, my dad had a little skin cancer about 10 years ago. The treatment was some kinda cream applied to the area which burned like a mug but killed em dead. He continues to live comfortably to this day in the sunny awfulness of southern Florida. I've always heard that if you had to choose a cancer, skin is the way to go. So excellent choice, and godspeed.

Look at the bright side: this might get you out of the asswhip of home buying.

Holding a good thought for you. I've known a lot of people with skin cancer that have whipped it pretty easy.

Shouldn't that be... "nasal" cell?

Relax, we both know I'm going before you. ;)

I had a small bump pop up on the back of my neck in the last year or so. It felt like a mole and I just figure it grew when I wasn't paying attention to it. The doc took a look and said "ah, it's just a blackhead. I'll get it" and squeeze/POP now I have a small hole in the back of my neck. Skin is weird.

The lady on the phone assured me this is extremely common and that I have nothing to worry about. I have to go to a specialist though since it's on my nose and they can't just go at it like Alton Brown on a Thanksgiving turkey. It will be some sort of microscopic surgery. A coworker that just went through the same thing (though it was on his arm) said they'll cut some of me out and test it right there. If there are still cancer cells they'll keep digging. Since it's on my face they'll take as little as possible each time so who knows how long it will take. The worst part about this whole thing is I have to drive to Plano. Twice.

Both of my brothers in law have had that procedure. I believe it's called the Mohr procedure. They are both fine by the way.

:babyarm: good to know. I'm not overly concerned just yet. Maybe by the 15th I'll be in a full blown panic.

I'll keep you in my thoughts little Gammil. You're a good dude and you have nothing to worry about. The docs will have you have to 100% in no time so don't fret about nothing. Let's hook up in the next couple of weeks and spit in the face of cells that aren't as cool as others. Jack Socks for life!

Thanks, buddy. If mass quantities are involved I will be there.

Look like I never updated this thread. Of course, none of you fuckers asked, either. :mad:

I went in for the "consultation" which was basically the doc looking at me for 2 minutes and setting an appt. That was $275. What the ever loving fuck.

With my wonderful insurance the procedure was going to cost me nineteen hundred fucking dollars out of pocket. I passed. I'm going to really review my insurance options this year also see how much it would be to get on the wifey's. I'll get the procedure done probably first quarter of next year. The doc assured me I won't be in any real danger for years if ever, so waiting isn't a big deal.

greggo = 0
cancer = 1

sonofabitch!

I'm getting on the wifey's insurance after we got bought and our kickass insurance package got switched to the shit plan the new guys use. There's a $1600 deductible you gotta meet before getting anything back, so unless you have a surgery or go to the doctor every other week, you're not gonna get anything for the money you put in every paycheck. I'd switch to Obamacare, but I'm white and employed.

Wrong. Somehow the wife's health benefits have remained the same. I just now work for a cheap-ass company.

I recently suffered from a basal cell diagnosis myself, cancer brother. The week after Mother's Day I had the Moh's procedure to have it removed.

My dermatologist said the procedure was simple. She was an Ivory girl type, with a kind smile and dimples. The affected area was on my right temple. What they had to carve out was akin to a pimple.

Anydanghoo, it was a tad more intensive than I had expected and the healing period took every bit of 2 months. It was a gruesome looking wound at first, where the basal was removed, but the forehead is pretty much healed to mint condition.

Did you ever get yours taken care of?

Glad to hear you made it through your cancer journey safely, my friend. As for me, on the next visit to my dermatologist he couldn't find any more cancer cells. It appears that through his and the "specialist"'s digging around they removed all the bad stuff, so it wasn't at all necessary for me to spend an additional nineteen-hundred-fucking-dollars. I'm all good!

I went through having a basal cell spot removed from my chest last fall. I had this nasty red spot for about 5 years and it had started bleeding and scabbing over on a semi regular basis. I showed it to my regular doc and she recommended seeing a dermatologist. On the first visit, he biopsied it and it hurt like a real son of a bitch when the lidocaine wore off and I started sweating at work. I had it scraped off a month or so later and by the time I followed up in 2 months, the spot had started a regular cycle of developing a white head every 2 weeks or so that was pretty uncomfortable. He said that was a typical reaction and he injected it with a steroid a couple of times and recommended a surgical scar ointment. It's mostly gone and any time I use the scar treatment in the morning I can't see it in the evening.
The real kicker: my insurance didn't cover the steroid injections and said they were "cosmetic". 'merica.

Getting old sucks. Don't ignore the cancer.
