Went to the dentist today. They had to fix an old filling that was going bad. In fact, they want to replace all meh old metal fillings I got when I was like 12. So now I got right numb face, and here's the kicker: Something screwed up while they were adhesing it and they want to redo it. I get to go back in next week for a do-over and deep gum cleaning. No new cavities though.

Twist: They let me watch a movie while all this went on. My choices were Gladiator and Dodgeball. I chose Gladiator, a movie I'm not all that fond of to begin with and I'll have to watch again somewhere down the road, but at least it's not Dodgeball.

Had the last of meh major work today. 3 1/2 hours in the chair. Got deep gum cleaning and they fixed that new filling that didn't fit right. I think I got 15 novacaine injections into meh mouf, but I lost count. My face at the moment is still numb. Gotta have wisdom teeths removed sometime in the future, but I'm in no rush after all this shit.

I opted for no movie. They also offered me a blanket since the room was really cold, but I turned that down too.

Got one half of meh teeth scaled yesterday. Still a little sore.
Another scaling coming, then *sigh* the real work starts.

I'm at the point where I just want 'em to yank 'em all out and just give me a set of dog's teeth.

You are ahead of me. They showed me the $6k estimate and I freaked. Not at the amount, at the fact that it ONLY covered the scaling and extractions... NONE of the rc's and rebuilding work. Plus I didn't appreciate Dr. Hadji basically going into infomercial mode with the slideshow that looked to be set up for 8 yr olds.

I'm gonna be checking out another doc soon and see what can be done. Most likely I'm gonna have to put a lot of this off until next year when I have a chance to put some cash in a flex spending account. fml

Dental insurance is great if you keep your teeth perfect. But as soon as you need work done, they don't pay for shit.

One more thing about insurance...When I was in 5th grade, I chipped one of my front teeth. I've had it fixed a few times, but for various reasons it usually gets knocked off again after a few years. Since that keeps happening, the dentist wants to just put a cap on there so it won't happen again. Insurance covers it 100%. Problem is, my teeth aren't perfectly white, so he also suggests getting the other front tooth capped as well, since apparently it's damn near impossible to match my particular shade of yellow with a new tooth. Insurance won't cover shit on the 2nd one, so I either look goofy or pay out the ass. Third option is a set of fake teeth like Chevy Chase had in Fletch when he pretended he was an airplane mechanic.

So, here goes sharing shit that all of you already knew, and your cousin Walty is finding out a day late, dollar short.

Keep yer teef clean.

Just had three removed. One took forever, as the dentist damned near had to put his foot on my jaw and yank.
That sucked. Really sucked. Like, I'd rather go to an Apple store with rockme than go thru that shit again sucked.

Now I have all kinds of gauze in my mouth, I have severe cotton mouth, and somehow, I'm supposed to go without damned near anything for the next 48 hours until this heals up.

Mslfarp? Mslfarp indeed.

I'm a fucking retard. Don't be a fucking retard.

swish and gargle with listerine for 30 seconds before you brush... same effect as flossing.

Ok, but I don't see how swishing my hips will help keep my teeth clean.

You can get the little plastic toothpicks with the floss attached. It's not so much a pain in the ass.

I went for my 6 month follow up yesterday after going for the first time in 8 years. The scraping and whatnot wasn't too bad, but my gums bled like crazy and the hygienist decided to take measurements of the gingivitis involvement. "Taking measurements" is some secret code word for repeatedly stabbing the fucking hell out of the gum space between my teeth. It was murder. The dentists must be in cahoots with the electric toothbrush industry because they keep telling me that will fix this whole issue with my gums.

Is that where they poke the gums around each tooth and assign a number from 1-5? They've done that to me twice now and I have no idea which is better, 1 or 5.

Yep, that's it. The lower the number the better. Anything above 3 is bad. I had a half a dozen or so at 4.

FWIW, I got an electric toothbrush and without me saying anything the hygienist commented on how much better my gum tissue was not long after I got it.
