I'm pretty sure my problems stem from my teeth, not my dentist. They never try to sell me anything. The estimate I got was because they told me to see a periodintist. It wasn't my dentist getting the money.

This makes me even more afraid of what might be said if I was coming out of anesthesia. Pretty sure I wouldn't be talking about white dick, though.

So it's been 5 years since I last went to the dentist because I didn't like that guy. He was hella aggressive about fixing any problems with the most expensive option, so screw him. Finally, I've gone back to another dentist. They're a bit more reasonable, however, I have to do that gum treatment thing again. I don't mind except now we're on the wife's dental plan and the out of pocket is more than twice what it was on my old plan 5 years ago. I also have a big cavity in one of my upper wisdom teeth. (Yes, I still have my wisdom teeth.) Those are gonna get yanked one of these days. My lower wisdom teeth never came in. Did yours?

They were cool about two other problems I have. One is a chipped tooth I have that I get fixed every 5-7 years after the filling falls off again. I can pay $35 for another filling that might last 5 years, or $900 for a porcelain replacement that will last forever. I don't mind paying $35 every 5 years.

I also have an old filling from when I was 12 that the old dentist had a boner to replace, but this guy says is just fine, thankya. Yeah, someday it'll need to be replaced, but he says it's holding up so let's take care of this more important shit first.

And I liked the hygenist who took care of me. She's around my age but still cute and she'd probably make out with me if I forced her to.

Yes, I still have my wisdom teeth, too, only my lowers came in but not my uppers. Weird, huh?My wisdom teeth don't bother me so I have ignored my dentist recommendations to have them removed. They are hard to brush however, because I use an electronic toothbrush :hookem: . Do you have an electronic toothbrush? I feel sorry for yuck mouf peasants that still use hand toothbrushes. Sometimes when I try to reach my wisdom teeth with my tb (it is an Oral B, btw) I gag. This happens sometimes too when I brush my tongue. I do not like to gag. It is unpleasant. The taste of my tootaste is unpleasant too but my teeth feel nice and clean. It is the Arm & Hammer brand of toothpaste that my wife picked up when she went to Walgreens and asked me if I needed anything and I said "yes, toothpaste." Anydanghoo, it tastes like baking soda or something, but like I said my teeth do feel clean. Have you ever put baking soda in a bowl and then poured vinegar over it? It gets real foamy and explosively fizzy, like a volcano.

I too have an electric toothbrush, but I don't use it. I used to brush with it at night time. I'd use the manual lower-class toothbrush in the morning to get all that nighttime yuckiness off then a gentle polish with the electric before bed. Then one day I thought "Yeah that's kinda dumb" so I just use the manual toothbrush now. They gave me a new one after my exam yesterday which excited me because I need a new one, but Mrs. Tit told me those toothbrushes are weak (it's an Oral-B) and I know not to cross her on these matters because she'll cut you. How many times a day do you brush?

Upper wisdom teeth getting yanked in a couple weeks. It's actually affordable.

Tit Jr wants to come to my appointment because he's watched all those videos online of kids coming out of anesthesia and he wants to record me acting silly. Little does he know, his old man has lots of experience with maintaining composure while high.

I saw another one of those videos today. I don't get it. I had multiple extractions on 2 visits. All I got was a little NOS and some Novocaine. Both times I drove myself home.

They're knocking my ass out. IV and everything. I'm required to bring someone along to give me a ride home. I could probably push the issue and get a seditive and some novacaine and save a few bucks, but I'd prefer to not be awake for this crap.

They knocked me out too. I was in no position to be driving. When I went back for the followup, they found that there were still some teeth particles in there, so I had to go back and do it again. Having puffy cheeks in 11th grade was almost as bad as that day my mom made me wear my head gear in 5th grade. Never happened again.

Got me some gum therapy today. It wasn't bad. They used some numbing gel instead of shots. The gel tastes like shit but it works. It wears off pretty quick and I was feeling some of the deep digging, but I'm a man and I can handle it. I get special toothpaste that's supposed to help out. Apparently it doesn't foam like normal toothpaste. Is that a quality you look for in toothpaste? Right now I taste a lot of blood.

I returned to the dentist today for a follow-up cleaning and check up on how my periodontal disease is doing. Did you know you can't eliminate periodontal disease once you have it, you can only treat it? Well I'll be getting treatments like a mug for the foreseeable future. My numbers are a lot better. I had some 5's and 6's before the gum therapy. They're now down to 3's and 4's. It's important that I keep flossing. It's important that you do too. I use those little stick flosser things. Mine are shaped like little swords. They're kinda like those little plastic swords my dad used to get in his cocktails at fancy restaurants when I was a kid. Me and my brother used to dual with those things across the table til someone got poked in the thumb and ruined dinner. The restaurants weren't really that fancy, we just thought they were because our mom made us wear slacks. That was some leftover 60s era bullshit there. Anyhoo, I also got impressions made and I'm gonna do that teeth whitening thing. By the end of the year, my teeth are gonna sparkle like Fruitdog's. Oh yeah, and my dental plan covers $1500 worth of work each year. I came within $20 of my limit this year. Suck it, Delta Dental.

One of the only memories of a grandad I had who died when I was 6 or 7 is when he took me fishing on Toledo Bend. We stopped at some place in Kickapoo, La to eat at the end of the day. I remember that cause Kickapoo is a cool name for a shithole town. I had a burger. It was a very big burger or maybe I just had small hands. Anyhoo, what stuck out to me is that right smack dab in the middle of the burger was one of those little plastic swords. They jammed it through up to the the little plastic sword handle to keep the burger together. They even stuck an olive on top of the handle part. Lesser restaurants might have used a toothpick instead. That would've been forgettable. Does anybody else have some little plastic sword stories?

I had to go through that shit like 6 years ago. I don't think I ever had 6s though. I have to go to the dentist quarterly to keep mine at 2s and 3s. I floss every night unless I've been drinking heavily. I have a permanent retainer behind my bottom teeth, so I have to use regular floss and slide it under the retainer. I hate those stick flosser things.

I feel like I need a bottom retainer sometimes. I've got one jacked up bottom snaggle tooth and it kinda crowds the rest. My dentist says don't worry about it since it doesn't effect my bite and you can't see it unless you're staring down my throat but...

I got a bottom tooth that's moved out of place too. It's annoying and it ends up gathering a lot of plaque. Braces would take care of it but I went thru that as a teenager and don't wanna again. Plus my parents wouldn't pay for it this time. 7th grade I also had one of those gigantor retainers that took up my whole mouth to help with my overbite. I wore it at night but popped that fucker out as soon as I got to school. It interfered with my social calendar. I still have somewhat of an overbite today, and I don't care.

Finally got around to getting my teeth fixed.
I'll be paying for a dentist's affair with the hygienist for years to come.
I lucked out and won't have to get partial dentures, but only barely.
Root canals and extractions! YAY!

I went in for a checkup and teef cleaning the other day and all looked good except for an old filling I had done when I was like 12. The hygienist didn't like the look of it around the edges so she took a picture and showed me. Ever see an image of a teeth blown up on a big flatscreen about 12 inches from your head? It's gross I tell ya. She brought the dentist over and he's a new guy at this place and also about 5'1". The hygienist is no giant but he actually had to lower me in the chair to get a look. Yep, it's wearing out and needs replacing and the afternoon is free so they could do it same day. I had one of these replaced about 10 years ago at another dentist in a high-end strip mall. Fucker cost me $500 out of pocket and took all damn morning. This new one only cost me $50 and they got it done in about 15 minutes. Other dentist got me some fancy hi-tech porcelain shit, but this guy just filled it with some kinda compound and got me outta there. What a good guy. So in the future if you get an estimate that's gonna cost you a shitload, ask if there's a cheaper way to do it. There usually is.

I paid 75 bucks for a filling a few years ago and I think it took about 10 minutes at the end of my appointment. He overfilled in on purpose and said the excess goop would wear off in a week or two. It was weird as hell at first, but I got used to it by the time it was gone.

Damn, this thread has been around for awhile. I've been going to the dentist every 6 months for 8 years or so after years of not at all. I finally bought a Sonicare brush a few years ago. I always forget to charge it until it's damn near dead and I never change out the head. Last year, my hygienist gave me a sample of a medicated toothpaste and told me to use it for better gum health. It was $8 a tube at the store, but I found a deal on Amazon that was 6 tubes for $30. You can find some good deals like that on Amazon if you're willing to buy in bulk.

My kid goes to a pediatric dentist and I'm always amazed at how quick they get through. It's a damn assembly line. In and out in 25 minutes and that includes meeting with the dentist. She eats candy and has drinks with sugar constantly and brushes once a day a day with a real half assed effort. The dentist always talks about how great her teeth look.

Which toothpaste? I'm still using the Sensodyne Rapid Relief. Anything else and my remaining teeth can't handle really hot or really cold drinks.
