Hell has frozen over. Place your bets on the Rangers winning the world series.

We are all in the wrong line of work. This shit is ridiculous. The first cake place wanted $1500. Some douche with a stereo wants $3000 to say stupid jokes and play the Chicken Dance. And I'm going into the decorator business. Throw some old linens in the damn rafters and cash a big damn check. What a racket.

And I don't care how the outside and inside envelopes of the invitations are addressed.

Eff all that shit. I drug mine down to the JP and had a big BBQ afterwards. Spent the money on the honeymoon.

Congrats, btw.

Everything is set, I was simply bitching about the wedding industry in general. We have all the details set and contracts signed. We have a band that doesn't even know the Chicken Dance, thank God. We got the cakes cheaper. The wedding is going to be a blast, but the wedding planning is a beating.

I completely isolated myself from the planning process. The only request I had was to get rid of the response cards with the invitations because that is a waste of fucking money.

Despite the wedding being just about two months away, we did our engagement pictures last night. We did most of them at the Inwood. I'm very proud that in some of the pictures, the marquee has "Star Trek" on one side and "This weekends midnight movie: A Clockwork Orange" on the other. Awesome.

On a separate time-line note, we got engaged in October. She had been reading up on theknot.com that the average engagement is 16-18 months. WTF? They claimed that was the minimum amount of time needed to plan a wedding. We had all the major reservations made within a few weeks and haven't run into a single time issue yet. The only thing left to get are the rings. The Knot claimed those needed to be ordered 6-8 months prior to the wedding. One of my groomsmen is the manager of a Helzberg Diamonds. He said if he doesn't have the rings in stock, it would take about two weeks to get them in and have them sized.

I hung out with some friends without the old lady last night. Before I made the mistake of opening my mouth, I realized that talking about the gifts we got from the first shower ain't the most manly thing to discuss at a sports bar with the bros. I decided not to tell them how cool the new vacuum cleaner we got was and instead discussed how cool Chris Davis's home run was. I have a feeling this is a new dilemma that I will have to deal with for years to come.

weddings are the singlemost biggest source of bullshit ever in the history of American culture.
All that crap you've heard is geared toward American women who feel the need to make the wedding their one day to be a princess.
Fuck all that crap. It sounds like your girl is more practical about it, and that's waaaay good.
I still think that you should be able to charge a cover for your wedding reception. I don't understand giving away free booze, but that's me.

Next time you see him, walk up, try to bite your own ear. Then tell him hey I like parking in that spot right there.
Then close one eye and reach your hand out for a regular handshake.

I read this to her to which she responded "that pisses me off, but it's so true!"

Someone already mentioned to me that they hadn't received a thank you card for a gift from one of the showers. My first response was "fuck you!" then told them they might get one after the wedding. You're gonna throw it in the trash anyway, so what's the big deal? We already told you thanks.

Little over a week away and everything is set. I've been pushing to get it all done before the families invade and start bitching and moaning. Way too much money has been spent on this thing, but not by either of us. I told her I wish her dad had just cut us a check for everything. But he has to impress his family that's coming in.

The reception will feature a band called "Velvet Love Box." Neither my fiance or her mom knew what their name meant. We've seen them dozens and dozens of times and she never thought about it. But it was all already in place and cannot be changed when they figured it out. Good times.
