This won a Mercury prize which basically is like Album of the Year for shit that doesn't sell. This is for people who think Coldplay rock too hard. A couple songs are cool but the rest will put you sleep and/or grow you a vag.

I haven't seen it yet. Apparently, if you're into weird shit, you might like it. From what I understand, it's strongly influenced by movies like Eraserhead.

Oh, and let's see...Of Montreal - Skeletal Lamping: Skip it. They've done more interesting stuff.

Some thoughts:

Bob Dylan in the top 10...WTF?
Mick Jagger...great frontman, yes. great singer, no.
Lou Reed...love his music, but seriously, no.
Kurt Cobain...as a member of Gen X who was right there for the rise of grunge and gladly welcomed the changing of the music guard, this guy does not speak for me in any way. Stop thinking he does.

Plant and Mercury should be 1 and 2 or 2 and 1 when it comes to rock singers. If you want to go by talent and technique, etc., then Aretha can be #1. But if you're gonna do that, Dylan, Cobain, and, yes, Jagger are off the list.

well if this is rock singers then the chariman shouldnt be there, but neither should aretha. rolling stone has been a joke imho for quite some time and this list only reinforces that.

It didn't specify, but I'm assuming it's for pop music, based on some of the entries.

I got the new Ween live album they released thru their own label. It's a show from their early days when they toured as a duo with a DAT player playing the drum tracks behind them. This shit's awesome! Nothing professional about it whatsoever, just lots of screaming and guitar noise. Sounds like a more raw version of their first few albums, if that's even possible. I don't know. I got wood and that's all that matters right now.

If anyone's ever thought of checking out Frank Zappa but didn't know where to start, I recommend his album Sheik Yerbouti. First off, it's not as crazy musically as some of his other stuff. Yes, there's a few examples of how crazy his music can get ("Wild Love", "Rubber Shirt"), but this is much more accessible and most people shouldn't have too much trouble with it. Secondly, it's one of the funniest albums you'll ever hear. "Jewish Princess" and "Bobby Brown Goes Down" are over the line even by today's standards. So check it out. If you wanna know more about what a great composer he was, then check out Hot Rats, which is a mostly instrumental album. Now that you know all this, please burn/delete your Nickelback albums.
