BAM! Martha Stewart buys Emeril Lagasee franchise.

but not the restaurants.

I dunno how much he is getting out of the deal, but 50 mil sounds a little cheap, esp since the older he gets the more his name will be worth. On top of that, it assures the survival of Martha Stewart Inc, of which makes me ill.

Yeah but he's gone from food network, and will be soon forgotten, Emeril got the better end of the deal. Also heard Martha is working on her own network, so it might be the start of something bigger.

From what I read he stopped doing the Emeril Live shows, but will continue the Essence of Emeril series. I don't know that he's leaving the network, just slowing down a bit. It sounds like this deal gets the syndication rights to all the shows, on top of the cookbooks, cooking utensils, and all other named products. I think he's only right around 50 years old, so he's got another 20-30 years to make money from his name. He's the biggest thing going in food right now, and I'm betting he'll end up being worshipped like so much Julia Childs. 50 mil just sounds cheap for this deal.

Of course, he could be just REALLY tired of everything and say fuck it, or he could be getting sick. Either one of those scenarios would be understandable for the deal.

I wouldn't say he's the biggest thing going in food right now. America is getting pretty foodie and they are starting to realize Emeril is a hack. He's all personality, and not so much on the actually food.

I have some of his cookware. Good stuff.

Emeril's popularity has been on the decline. He was a mainstay at the Food Network for years. They clearly are moving in a younger direction. The shows they are featuring now are moving to young, attractive chefs, or contests. Paula Dean and Alton Brown are the oldest hosts remaining. And both of those really are gimmicky.

You didn't just call Alton Brown gimmicky? Teaching you why you cook not just how to cook isn't gimmicky.

Alton is one of my favorites.

He is gimmicky. He's not the straight forward look at the camera and watch me cook type of host. He's full of bits.

He did help all of his workers after Katrina so I don't know how much of a douche he is. I'm just saying his food and his whole Emeri's Fish House sucked.

I'm sure he did alot for the people of Katrina, but when my mother-in-law is over and watches FoodNetwork, I want to slit my wrist when he's on the air.
