Robert Bechtle

The photo realist that captures the mundane. Is this a photo??? No it's a painting. I've seen his work in person and it's amazing to see that it can actually be that real.

I've always had a bit of a problem with that. The talent is impressive and undeniable, but why am I going to stare at, or pay thousands of dollars for, a painting of something I wouldn't look at twice were I passing it on the road? Same thing with movies or books for me as well. Hitchcock always said that drama is just like life except with all the boring parts cut out. I can't really say what exactly I want with a painting, and again, I admire the talent and work that goes into that, but it seems like that's all it is.

And on another note, if you put up a Kinkade painting, I'll personally come to 817 and stomp your guts out.

I don't think so, Jew-boy. Cap may get an assist, but I think I delivered that goal mostly on my own.

I think more than anything, it forces you to observe the light and shadows. I see these paintings at the modern and they were huge. The effect I got from it was opening your eyes to the little things.

Was that the effect Bechtle was going for or rather his expression???
Hell if I know.

Good question Diello, I'll post that Kinkade up real soon

Dan Flavin

The light bulb artist. I dont know what to think about this guy. My friend who's more into art than me said that Flavins Fluorescent (sic) arrangements and play on colors are designed to create a raw, abstract effect on you that leaves you removed from the world around you.

But I have a problem with this art. It's fucking light bulbs. That just seems wrong to me and a total give up. I hate art like that yet, when I look at his stuff, I enjoy looking at it.
