I haven't heard it yet but Mission of Burma's new album is getting good reviews.

I likes me some Mission of Burma. Their albums are relentless and can give you a headache sometimes, but they're good angry loud times.

Taking Mrs. Ich to see Lindsey Buckingham in concert at The McKinney Performing Arts Center on August 23rd. This venue might seat 500 people so it's going to be an intimate show.

For those of you unfamiliar with Lindsey outside if Fleetwood Mac, he is a great guitarist.

I like that new Lumineers album. It's got that Ho Hey song on it but the rest of the album is pretty good too.

Is that the one that goes "Hip Hop Hooraaaaaay! Hoooooo! Heeeeeeey! Hooooooooo!"?

no, it goes: Ho... Hey... I belong with you, you belong with me, in my sweet heart or something like that.

Listening now. Pretty good stuff. Did I mention Spotify is the shit?

Oh yeah, I've heard that. Giving it a listen on Spotify. It's pretty good.

If you're digging throwback folk music like that, give Carrie Nation and the Speakeasy a try.

Trying them out today.

So far Speakeasy sounds like Southern Rock, not necessarily throwback (unless you're classifying Skynard as throwback). Am I listening to the right band?

You two should do the BM show, part II.

Doing a talk show would require me to talk intelligently for a couple of hours. I can't even type intelligently for a couple of sentences.

No, it's old folk music sounding a lot like Tom Waits. There should be New Orleans horns and shit in it.

Reposting in case this got ignored on the page break. Again, the name of the band is Carrie Nation and the Speakeasy. They're on Spotify.

I'm starting to pick up on that a bit. When I posted that I had only heard "Greenville", "Machine" and "Trainwreck", all of which sounds like a Skynard/Allman Brothers/Foghat mashup. After listening to "Medicine Man" and "Mama's Boy" I can feel the extra soul (the harp helps).

Btw I've never really listened to Tom Waits. I know that makes me a bad person. To make up for it I will see what I can find on Spotify today and do some jamming. As penance I give you Heath Ledger's inspiration for The Joker.

Motherfuck I AM listening to the wrong band! I'm listening to just "Speakeasy" :D I thought you were talking about 2 different artists.

Okay, this is wildly different than what I was listening to before. Yes, it's totally NOLA and jazzy and I'm super digging it.

:D I know I'm a musical idiot but I just couldn't figure out how "Speakeasy" was old timey.

See? This could be the most confusing podcast ever.

And with Tom Waits, start off with Heartattck and Vine, Swordfishtrombones, or Rain Dogs. After that, he can get weird and the wrong launching point can screw you up.

A collection of bands from the 90's was in Dallas last night for the last summer on earth tour. They gotta know their fans are in or around 40 something. Gexa? Sunday evening? 100 degrees? Fuck all that. Plus I heard Cracker's set was only 3 songs. They would've been the only ones I'd really want to see. Loves me some cracker.

I too loves me some Cracker. That's kinda disappointing to hear they didn't do a full set. I saw them at Trees about 10 years ago and they were great.

Holy shit! RAWK!!
I love Bob. Now is as good a time as any to remind everyone that Bob's albums with his band Sugar have been re-released. Copper Blue is one of the best power rock albums ever and holds up much better than most early 90s alternative rock.

I could do without the Autotune, but it's solid. I've been a fan of the singer since his previous band, The Format, so I'm happy for their success. I don't mean that in a "I liked them better as the Flat Duo Jets" kinda way. The guy is a great singer and there's more depth to his lyrics than in typical pop music. But still, his voice is too good to be mucking with Autotune.

Is this dude channeling Freddie Mercury or what? Not only in his voice but the layers in the music. There's a lot to each song that you have to have multiple listens to really appreciate.

Agreed, some of the AT is definitely over done. It's a little different though because he's using it as an instrument and not because his voice isn't strong enough. I can't help but think if Freddie Mercury were around he would have dabbled in the AT by now as well.

I've listened to the album multiple times over the last week. Just about every song has a pretty strong hook. And every one sounds like something I've heard before ("Some Nights" sounds like "Cecilia" by Paul Simon).

By the way, this dude is claiming he's straight, even going so far as date a band mate's sister. Wtf ever. My gaydar is pinging hard on this fucker.

As an aside: I swear to god on high for weeks I thought a girl sang "We Are Young". At least the verse part.

I just saw this post and I said the same thing about "Some Nights" in another thread. That's funny.
