Best Picture Nominees:

The Big Short - Thought they did a great job taking a fairly complicated subject and making it understandable to the masses. Steve Carrell and Christian Bale owned their roles. This is my runner up movie.

Bridge of Spies - Tom Hanks last disappointed me in Joe vs the Volcano. He hasn't disappointed me since. Good movie, but not the Oscar winner.

Brooklyn -Didn't see it.

Mad Max: Fury Road - Fun movie, but has no business being nominated. Hell, this movie had no business being called Mad Max as he wasn't even the main character.

The Martian - Enjoyed Matt Damon's character, but this is not an Oscar winner.

The Revenant - Another good movie, but no way is this best picture though it may very well win. Tom Hardy should win best supporting. If DiCaprio wins, it's a sympathy vote. Crawling around the forest grimacing is not Oscar worthy. I think Bryan Cranston's performance in Trumbo should be the winner.

Room - Didn't see it, but I've heard it's got the potential to win.

Spotlight - This is my pick. Great ensemble cast. They all did a great job. Ruffalo is my runner up in best supporting male. Rachel McAdams is my choice for best supporting female.

I saw 7 of the 8. I missed out on Bridge of Spies, but it sounds like it won't be in play tonight.

Didn't care for Mad Max, didn't really have any business being nominated.

Spotlight should win. Difficult subject matter, tastefully handled, stellar ensemble cast.

I might give the ensemble cast edge to The Big Short. As good as Bale and Carrell were, Ryan Gosling stole the show in my book.

I enjoyed The Revenant, but I wouldn't even put it in the top 4. I with Ich, Tom Hardy wins Best Supporting Actor hands down.

Liked The Martian. Another good ensemble cast. Matt Damon will score an acting Oscar sooner or later.

Room creeped me the hell out, but it's a great movie. There's no justice in the world if Brie Larson doesn't win.

Brooklyn isn't the best of the bunch, but I enjoyed it the most (saw it twice). As a character in the movie said, I'm gonna hear that girl's Irish accent at the pearly gates of heaven.

The Martian was disappointing. I've only seen that and MM:FR and neither belong in a list with classics, such as Driving Miss Daisy and Crash.

Tit needs to update his Oscar watching thread.

How I rank the ones I saw:

1. Mad Max
2. Spotlight
3. Big Short
4. Revenant
5. Martian

You guys are high. Mad Max was fucking awesome. If you don't like it you deserve shit like the fucking Danish Girl.

It was weird that it was all about blacks and didn't include Asians, Hispanics, and the Inuit. But when a Mexican has won Best Director for three years straight that might screw up the narrative.

I didn't watch any of it because I'm tired of racial stuff.

Oh yeah, and the film about excellent journalism that won the top prize was written and directed by The Wire's own Scotty Templeton. Irony (not really.)

Is that the high humor satire where a CGI Deer pees on Adam Sandler?
