I'd like the sentence quoted where I said that Sideways was horrible.

I saw the preview for The Ringer earlier this week. Good lord. I have a feeling there will be some kind of outcry from diabled groups when the move is released.

The Ringer is executive produced by the Farrelly Brothers, who do a lot of work with retards. I doubt they'll let it be condescending, but that still doesn't mean it'll be any good.

Prediction: :saggerdash: :saggerdash: (out of 5)

Good Night and Good Luck -- This will easily be one of the top 2 or 3 for the year. It's slow and there's no action. The entire thing takes place practically inside a TV studio. I don't like to preface these kind of things, but if you're into the history of the events it depicts, you'll be riveted. But if not, don't bother. You need a preconceived notion of how important Edward R. Murrow and Fred Friendly's actions were. And if you know your history, that makes the movie great.

:goldstar: :goldstar: :goldstar: :goldstar: out of five.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - Tim Burton officially sucks. Yeah, it's pretty to look at, but could you give us some characters to care about? And Depp's Wonka was just off. He wasn't creepy or weird, just a flake. He was forcing it the whole time. Stick with the original. Gene Wilder's contempt for the kids is still fun to watch.

Earlier this week:

Jarhead - Not a bad movie, but it didn't exactly leave me wowed. Diello summed it up well with his "parts greater than the whole" comment. Peter Sarsgaard was impressive as usual in what was a much grittier part than I've seen him in before. I usually can't stand Jamie Foxx, but he was actually pretty good.

Tonight:

Walk the Line - Great movie, maybe the best I've seen this year. Joaquin was a spot-on Cash and Reese Witherspoon stole the show as June Carter. She had the voice and personality nailed and she was super cute-hot. It slowed down a lot in the middle and got away from the music while it focused on his wheels-offness in the mid-60's. My only real gripe is that his strained relationship with his father was way too cliche (artistic son has a hard-nosed father who never likes him) and a little forced. All around a great movie. I'll be surprised if both don't get an Oscar nod and if Witherspoon doesn't win it.

Walk the Line -- What bigboy said. Very good. Another thing I loved was the other music greats along for the ride in the early part, Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, etc.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire -- Just like the others and I'm not complaining. A lot of fun things with a plot that gets in teh way.

:babyarm:

Except I think they could have done a little better job of tracking down someone who looked and sounded a lot more like young Elvis. It took me a second to realize that supposed to be Elvis.

Could Shooter Jennings sound any more like his daddeh?

Primary - Uh... er.... um.... I don't think I liked it, but I'm not sure. It seemed they went out of their way to make a bad story confusing to follow.

Hey, Diddle Diddle, am I supposed to like this?

Jarhead=solid flick. Jack Gyllenhaal did a good job playing a confused, bored, motivated Marine. Jamie Fox did a great job playing the tough as nails sergeant. He may be a top ten'er now when it comes to actors. I give it 3.5 out of 5 stars

Anyone with On Demand should check out the Comedians of Comedy on Showtime on demand. It's great. Dunno how long it'll be there, though.

Walk The Line = 9.79/10. I didn't realize Reese Witherspoon was that hot. She suffers from a very slight case of bird leg, buy her performance outweighs the shit outta that. Phoenix was greatness as well, except Johnny Cash didn't have a harelip.

Shattered Glass - wasn't looking forward to it. was pleasantly surprised as it kept my interest the whole way through. Darth Vader was a real con man. I was actually hoping he would get away with it. 4 out of 5.

School Ties - not bad, although Matt Damon and Brendan Frasier naked fighting was very uncomfortable. 3.1 out of 5.

I also caught the Star Wars: Clone Wars. Vol 2 thing on Cartoon network. Instead of 20 3 minute cartoons, it was 5 12-15 minute cartoons. It wasn't as good as the first volume, but it was more relevant in regards to Episode III - ie Anakin becoming a Jedi Knight, Grevious kidnapping Palpatine. 3.0 out of 5.

Melinda and Melinda - Not bad, but Woody Allen has definitely done better. He did the comedy/tragedy thing much more effectively in Crimes and Misdemeanors. I also hate how friggin' intellectual everyone is in his movies. Everyone's a wine conoisseur and an art historian, and no one's ever even heard of the Beatles. Fuckin' annoying. Will Farrell was damn funny in the Woody role. He can actually be subtle when he wants to be.

Rent - doesn't follow the stage script completely right, and they switched up the song order. also, they left out some of my favorite parts (no answering machine dammit). overall i thought it was a good transition from stage to screen and i loved how they translated some of the empty content from the stage show.
