Went to my mom's this afternoon and a World Cup update came on. To my surprise, she asked me this question: Do you ever get the feeling that we are SUPPOSED to like this? After I laughed at the question, she talked about a radio host this morning talking about how ignorant we are if we don't like it. She changed to a different station. I just nodded in agreement with her and changed the subject. |

I loved listening to bandwagon Corby get deep into soccer talk this afternoon. I only wanted to punch my radio 3 times: 1. Copious amounts of hyperbole - "This was the greatest sports moment I've ever witnessed!" 2. Corby: The US team has never won their group. Danny: Since 1930. And my favorite, 3. Rhyner: How many guys on the US team play in Europe? Corby: None. Well, maybe 1 or 2. *five minutes later* Danny: Hey, a guy on the phone said that 17 of the 23 players on the US team play in Europe? |

I heard that and thought the same thing. I like Corby but he needs to do at least 5 minutes of research on stuff like this. I also laughed when he talked about how exciting the call was on the winning goal against Assholeastan or whoever it was. Then he played it and I thought it was really dull. I need to e-mail Mike and tell him there needs to be even more Sidekicks references. If they had the two minute drill I'd call in every day wondering who was a better goalie, Krys Sobieski or Joe Papeleo. |

Somewhere I have a hate with Smudger Smith and Eddie Radwanski autos. Got Tatu's auto too. And clearly Sobieski was the better goalie. |

I don't know how people watch this game. Between the ever constant flopping and overacting, the unbelievably horrible officiating and the "professional" gameplay by some of the players this has to be one of the worst sports from top to bottom that I've ever watched. I can see why so many riots are caused by this shit. |

I'm used to watching REAL football... where if they bring the stretcher out to get you it's because you've likely lost the ability to walk. In soccer a couple of guys run out on the field with a hand held stretcher a la Bugs Bunny cartoon and carry the guy 3 feet off the "pitch" and set him down, where he promptly pops up, jogs over to his coach and demands to go back in. It's the only sport I know where the player pride themselves on who can be the biggest pussy. |

So Mexico was beaten today and a questionable call was involved. My take on this: Too fucking bad. In 2004 in Guadalajara, their fans booed the U.S. National Anthem and chanted "Osama" during the game. I'm glad they got beat. |
