i am still shocked that they got the U.I.L. on board with broadcasting the game. this is going to cause a shit storm next season when teams want to broadcast their games locally live. in 1997 we tried to get the richland vs. haltom game broadcast to local residents, and the U.I.L. had a screaming shit fit. so i got the cinemark 8 to agree to simulcast the game live in one of their theaters, and the U.I.L. refused to let us do it because "if we let you do it, then we will have problems with other schools wanting to do it in the future". we ended up having to broadcast to the theatre with a 18 minute delay.

Maybe it pertains only to the 5A level, but the live statewide broadcasting of the championship game(s) has been going on for several years now. Regional, quarter-finals and semi-finals have not been on the tube, but the finals have.

Alas, many many years of "Daddy can't buy you this one" signs and general shittiness of all opposing fans has gone aside as the mighty mighty Scotties of Highland Park High have come out on top. It's cool to hate HP, hell, it's cool to hate Cods, but none of that shit matters because the victory was pretty clear and the boys really came to play.

I was proud to watch, proud to get about a zillion emails from fellow classmates who rallied around this event and proud of the fact that there was a sold out show with tons of hometown support. This was a talented team and they got it done.

I love this day so much. Today when looking at the district lineup, I realized I was sort of a mini-Norm, picturing various scenarios that might occur next fall.

Many schools are in the position that they can't make out their non-district schedules until after realignment is announced. So, this means a lot of jockeying by coaches to schedule games. It's fun to watch them scramble to line up games.

Only three or four posts since the last alignment? Dang.

At the lower levels, it looks like the UIL went for putting schools of similar size together. No longer will a big 2A be able to kill a little 2A in district play. Same thing for 1A.

However, this has caused some crazy travel for district games. It's crazy, man.

The Ticket has been promoting their new HS football show with Dingleberry and some other guy.

Of all the attempts to do high school football shows, this is the worst fucking show ever. They took an entire segment to give the score of a single game.

In the second segment they talked about another game and it was obvious they were just winging it. They don't have anything to say, just look at stats from last year and milk that.

After 2 segments I was out. They only gave 2 scores in 2 segments. Dumbasses.

Just west of Gainesville are two German schools in the 1A class: Muenster and Lindsay. Some call them East Germany (Lindsay) and West Germany (Muenster). When they play during the regular season it is called the Kraut Bowl by the locals. It is a big deal. I haven't taught at a school that has a rivalry like this. There are so many people at these games that there are just as many on the sidelines as there are in the stands. It's a magical experience for the outsider.

Muenster won the Kraut Bowl this year.

This year, both teams made the playoffs and both are still in it. Guess who gets to play each other for the second time of the year. They are playing in Denton. Hoob will be there.

At the state track meet, a mistake was made on the distance of a shot put attempt. The wrong kid got a medal. Protest was denied. UIL showed their ass. Twice.
