I don't think anyone will chime in, but if you do, fine.

Today they raced at Indianapolis, and there was a problem with the type of tire they used. This caused the tires to blow out after only 10 laps. This makes a 160 lap race take a long ass time and it ruined the race.

Over 200,000 people paid to see this in person. The Allstate Insurance Company crapped out millions to sponsor the race and the TV commercials. I don't like this company at all, but I sure wouldn't blame them for being pissed about their investment.

My question is, who gets fired over this? This is the second-most fucked up deal I've ever seen in NASCAR. Nobody will remember who won. They'll remember 43 cars with Maypop Tires.

By the way, the most fucked-up deal ever also involved tires. Talledega, 1969.

Hoob.

They had never driven at speeds like that and the tire technology hadn't caught up yet. The regular drivers boycotted the new track for safety reasons. They still ran the race, and some no name guy won it.

It also resulted in the breaking of the drivers' attempt at forming a union.

as much as the old school drivers were against safety, them having a union would probably have doubled the death count over the years.

Goodyear tires suck. They suck on the track and they suck on the highway.

Post subject:  Re: If you are in need of sleep, here's a NASCAR thread

Safety regulations are something NASCAR was constantly battling the old drivers with. When they brought up a new rule, the drivers would piss and moan and fight with NASCAR to delay the rule or talk them out of implementing it all together. See Dale and the HANS device for a good example. He spear headed the movement to keep that out of NASCAR until his accident. (Don't ask for sources on this shit, it's just info I've picked up on watching history shows n stuff.)

If the drivers would have had a union, then all new rules and regulations would have been subject to voting in. That would have delayed the new regs even longer, resulting in more injuries and deaths.

True, but NASCAR has no business racing on a flat oval like Indy. You can't make tires that can stand up to that punishment.

Indy cars don't seem to have a problem there. I know they are lighter but still, they don't tear up like that shit NASCAR is putting out.

So, according to you, the drivers back then boycotted the race not because it was unsafe. They thought it was too safe. They wanted to add a sweet jump over a moat on turn two and put in the moat some alligators and sharks with lazers strapped to their head.

The extra weight of the cars and their higher profile has everything to do with it.

Those tires were definitely shit, though. What would be acceptable? 20 laps? 30? I just don't think the tires can take it, unless you make the cars throttle back the speed quite a bit.

He was also against mandatory wearing of full-face helmets. If he'd worn one, we wouldn't be subject to number 3 stickers with angels wings on them.

One of my faves, Carl Edwards, wins at Pocono and does his traditional backflip off of the car.

All sorts of cars ran out of gas on the last lap and had to be pushed off the track.

This race is considered one of the most boring races of all by many NASCAR fans and even the drivers. However, the track sells out both races every year. So it ain't going anywhere. I wish they'd shorten it to 400 miles.

Today's race was at the Watkins Glen road course, one of two road races for these guys. I have always been fascinated by this place and hope to go there someday.

There are arguments about whether or not NASCAR should do road racing. Some say they shouldn't do it at all, some say they should do it more.

Hoob says it's just right like it is. Do it twice a year. It's one thing that NASCAR does right.

The race had a violent multi-car wreck on turn 12 that stopped the race for 45 minutes. Kyle Douche won again.

Today's race was at Michigan. Not that exciting of a race, although one of my favorites, Carl Edwards won. But that's not the story.

The real news in NASCAR is with Coach Joe Gibbs' Nationwide Series team. Compared to baseball, this would be like the AAA level.

After most races, the cars are hauled off to a dynamometer to test horsepower. Well, some of Joe's boys thought they'd rig up the gas pedal so it wouldn't go all the way down to the floor. The stuck little magnets behind the accelerator to accomplish this. And they got caught.

Of course, Coach Gibbs and his son are sick about the whole thing. Even though this was probably the work of a rogue employee, they are open about having to face the music. And they are going to be called cheaters for the rest of their time in NASCAR now.

I hate this because I like Gibbs. I hate his football team (sorry, Somey) and I hate his drivers. But I like him.

I have a question: How do you choose which driver to root for? With team sports, you get geography to dictate your rooting interest, but what makes one of these rednecks better than the others?

Most of them choose a personality. They won't admit it, but that's what they do. There are other factors, but that's mostly it.

If I was in NASCAR, I'd develop a southern character shtick and stick to it. I'd talk with a drawl and I'd travel to the races with a coon dog. I'd be the most popular driver by far.

At Friday night's Nationwide race (it's like the minor league), they had Paula Deen give the command to start engines. Paula is the older hick gal from the Food Network that cooks everything with butter. It went like this:

"Drivers! Y'all start your injuns!"

They need her to start every race.

Busch's take on the incident: "He hit me getting into Turn 1, which got me a little loose," Busch said in the aftermath. "He'll probably say he was sorry and he didn't want to race that way. He always does. Whatever. We'll race him that way in the Chase if that's the way he wants to.

Edwards' take on it: "I couldn't get by him and I couldn't get by him," Edwards said. " ... I just kind of ran into him. ...I just had to ask myself, 'Would he do that do me?' And he has before. That's the way it goes.

"They keep talking about rivalries. We may have one now."

Hoob's take: A little punk has been being a total douche his entire career and gets what he deserves on the track. I only wish he'd tried to physically confront Carl Edwards, who is a workout nut. It would have been Youtube fodder for years.

Reminds me of that one time that one nascar guy had been a total douchebag his entire career then in that one race while in the middle of being a douchebag he ran into a wall and his head was crushed because he didn't have the hans device because he said he had been racing for 30 years without the hans device and his head hadn't detached from his shoulders yet which is ironic because while his head didn't detach from his shoulders in that wreck it almost did and now we have to put up with a bunch of idiot white trash rednecks cheering on his spare son that will never be as good as his dad was (before the wreck).

A buddy of mine (who has absolutely no problem telling anyone how he feels about anything) was up in Indianapolis for the 500 the year Earnhardt Sr. died, and the big thing was to show your respect by raising 3 fingers on the third lap of every race that year (a stupid gesture in it's own right). Well this drunk redneck taps my friend on the shoulder on the second lap and says in his hickass drawl.."Hey, don't forget....3 fingers on this next lap....You know....for Dale"; and my friend, who was feeling no pain himself turns to the guy and says "Fuck Earnhardt. He was a pussy and so is his son." I leaked a little tinkle when he told me the story.
