UIL 5A football championships drew higher attendance than most NCAA bowl The Birmingham News‘ Jon Solomon recently wrote about nearly across-the-board declines in NCAA bowl attendance. Here in Texas the UIL 5A Division I football championship, with an announced attendance of 48,379, saw a greater crowd than most bowl games. Here’s a look at how the bowls have drawn as compared to the UIL state championships: 1. Rose Bowl: 93,359 2. Cotton Bowl: 87,025 3. BCS National Championship: 80,120 4. Orange Bowl: 72.073 5. So it's just below the average attendance of a Raiders game at 54,000. |

I originally intended to make the joke in regards to the Jaguars, but they have surprisingly good attendance. Which is pretty bad if you are below that. The Jags drew almost 65,000 per game at a 96.8% capacity. The Steelers drew 61,000 at 94%. Miami was the lowest percentage-wise at 76%. But the bottom of the barrel is the Oakland fan. http://espn.go.com/nfl/attendance |
