Wish they had amnestied Haywood and signed Chandler.

It's pretty obvious what they're doing. Not getting into any long term contracts unless the player is 30>. Everyone they brought in this offseason is non-guaranteed for next season, except some small, partial guarantees to Vince Carter. Even Odom can be bought out for cheap and Marion or Haywood can be amnestied, if they decided to go that route. Kidd and Terry are FAs. There's the possibility that they have 32M in salaries guaranteed next season (Dirk/Roddy/Jones and either Marion/Haywood, who have practically even salaries - Haywood's is 1 year longer), which is a shit load of cap room. So they've done a good job at clearing room and still staying competitive for this season, even though they're not good enough to win it.

They have options for next year instead of being "stuck", but I don't think they would be able to convince any of the big time FAs to come here for less money (the max for signing with a new team is less than the max for signing with your current team), so I would have gone with 3-4 year contracts for Chandler/Barea/Butler instead of 1 year contracts for Odom/West/Carter and worried about 2015 in 2015.

I remember having some pretty awesome seats a couple rows from the court with Walt, Hugo, and Fruit and bailing on them after a quarter to go hang out in Terd's suite.

Yesterday's game did not leave me with a very confident feeling for this season.

And then right after the game they switch to Chandler shooting free throws for the Knicks. ಠ_ಠ

This season is all on Cuban. It was a decision he had to make I guess.

Meh. Local tv/radio crews always sport a little homerism. I don't think the Mavs guys are any better or worse than anyone else.

I don't remember Haywood being this clumsy. I know he can board and play a little defense, but he can't catch for shit. I've noticed several times where they won't even pass to him.

Last night was a fun game. I still love mavvy.

West has impressed me. Odam has not. Dirk had those steel balls permanently attached.

My son (Joe Montana) is wearing 41 this basketball season. He scored his first shot today...fade away...well, it looked like that in my memory. Did I mention he is white, blonde headed kids that is of German descent?

At Tit Jr's game today, the opposing coach got called for a technical and booted from the gym. These are 1-2 graders and he's a total dick.

Wow. When the occasional dumbass gets a T in a Junior High game, we make fun of them big time.

It happened at that level? So stoopid.

Bill Simmons says he hasn't talked to one person who isn't convinced that Deron Williams will be a Mav next year. If they could amnesty Haywood/Marion and trade the other, they would have room for Williams and Dwight Howard. Marion has been a monster defensively this year, but he's getting old. Only Dirk, Roddy and Dominic Jones would be under contract next year. They could pick up Wright's option for 900K and the rest of the team would be filled with scrubs, I guess. By the way, Carslile played Jones and Wright at the same time last night and I was really enjoying it. Seeing young guys play is fun. They should do it more. Next offseason will be interesting.

I see what you did there, but I'm not saying start them or play them with Roddy, Mahinmi and Sean Williams. They were out there with Dirk, Kidd and Marion, so there was a mix of energy and vets last night that I haven't seen in a while. Even though I would like to see more development of youth, Carslile deserves no criticism after last year. Hell, even this year he has them 4th with what looked to be a ragtag group of players.

Lorenzo Williams - not.that.bad.

Also, the Jazz bringing back the old '80s logo and ditching the mountains is the the best uniform move in a while.

I actually like Mahinmi. I think he has potential and they should think about bringing him back. Then again I also liked DJ Mbenga and Pops Mensah-Bonsu so what the fuck do I know. But seriously, Mahinmi I think could be a solid backup 5. I know he's struggled lately but IJS...

I don't mind Mahinmi. I was just naming the 5 youngest players (I think).

They used instant replay to give Delonte a tech for this, but they couldn't use it to catch Matt Barnes stepping out of bounds before a put back or touching the ball in the air before it went in on a Gasol 3 pointer in overtime on Sunday.
