Someone on a Bucks blog was wanting to trade Michael Redd for Stackhouse and Josh Howard. Obviously this doesn't mean anything, but maybe Howard has more value than we think.

This is probably a Randy Moss type case. The guy's got all kinds of talent and potential, but gets unhappy with his situation and starts underachieving. It wouldn't surprise me at all if he gets moved somewhere else and becomes the elite player we thought he would be here.

Mavs would pounce on that shit. Funny how that offer last year would have gotten you the finger from the Mav's braintrust.

I hope the Mavs get some good basketball players this offseason.

Think they want a do-over on the Josh for Gasol proposal?

:babyarm: Or how about the rumor that Minnesota wanted Josh in any deal for Garnett and the Mavs just couldn't imagine parting with Harris and Howard. :banghead:

I seriously think you're looking at getting a head case back. If Denver really wants out from under Melo, Bass and Howard would work... and it really wouldn't be a bad deal either way. Putting bass in any deal will automatically erase whatever point of weakness the mavs are bargaining from. I love the guy. LOVE him. But if packaging him will make some other team give dallas actual value... fare thee well. Buy low, sell high.

Cuban:

2008-9 We have a full training camp with a very motivated JKidd, the rest of our starters back, an improving Nasty Bassty (had to get that in there :), plus anyone we can add. We all thought (and still do), we would have a very strong nucleus to build around. We would also have a 1st round pick.

2009-10 Depending on how the previous season went, we would have several last year contracts available, the option of potentially having some cap room, and other options to improve the team. With the much lower potential salaries, not only could we use cap room if we went that direction to enable roster flexibility, we could also buy a pick. (there are almost always teams willing to sell a pick in the 20s for 3mm dollars)

2010-11 In this year we only have 2 fully guaranteed contracts and in 2011-12 We dint have any fully guaranteed contracts. So the options are endless in both years. Plus , its in one of these years that the new CBA comes up. With so little committed, depending on how hard a line the owners take, things could get very, very inter sting. Having so little contractually committed could be a great place to be when other teams look to dump salaries to avoid the risks of a lockout.

So we are in a rebuilding period? From the looks of Cuban's blog that is what he is dancing around right now. The team won't be good but we'll have a lot of cap room.

It still floors me that the Mavs are just now getting Shawn Bradley off the payroll.

I think that's what they paid him, but the last year it affected their salary cap was '06-'07. It was that "Allan Houston rule" where you could cut one guy and he would be off your cap after a year. You still had to pay him though.

Also, they may only have 4 guys signed for '10-'11, but they have them signed for 57+ mil.

He was getting paid 21mil last year, 18 of it from Dallas.

And the rule isn't that he's off your cap after a year, it's that you could cut him without taking a luxury tax hit.

:babyarm: Finley got a pay out total of about 50 million or so. I believe they were able to spread that out over like three years or some shit.

Yea, they paid his contract as if he was still playing with the team. The benefit of the rule is purely luxury tax-related.

# of guys signed for 10-11:

BOS 4
LAL 4
MIA 3
ORL 3
PHX 4
SA 3

So the Mavs will have a bit of competition for FAs.

At least Cuban seems optimistic and excited in his blog. Some people may think he's a meddling doofus but I would hate to see him sell the team and end up with someone like Phoenix's owner.

I secretly wanted John Calipari. I really like his Dribble Drive Motion Offense but that might be more due to having Rose and Douglas-Roberts at the 1 and 2 then the actual offensive system itself.

i don't see how carlisle's comment were "toeing the line" of tampering, as the reporter states.

and i'm all for trading away howard if he's really lost his game. i kinda wonder if avery just wore him down though.

I wonder if it would take Josh to get Artest? Can't he just opt out of his King's contract and sign with them? Would be nice if they could somehow swing Magette or Redd as well. I'd trade Josh straight up for either of those guys. You wonder if the Clippers or the Bucks would do the deal though. I'd like to see what Carlisle could do with this lineup:

Kidd/Lue
Magette/Terry
Artest/Stackhouse (or some other washed up spare)
Dirk/Bass
Damp/Whoever (maybe re-sign Diop)

Seems like they could run, play half court, get to the line, and play moderate to above average D. I don't know if that wins you a title, but it would be fun to watch.

Yes, they did. My point was he was the only one that publicly asked to be traded. I'm sure a couple of other players did so behind closed doors, but I doubt "half the team" did. Cuban needs to get off Avery's nut sack and accept his part of the blame.

Yeah, sounds like he may be trying to rewrite history here. I don't doubt that the black hitler is tough to play for, but half the team revolting is hard to imagine.

So he's saying this to excuse his firing of Avery? Cuban has never seemed the type to try and excuse or justify his management moves.
