Will the Rangers pick up FA Luke Heimlich ? We are the team of second chances...

From Scott Lucas's Rangers Farm Report of July 7:

Baseball America updated its Top 100 prospects and the only Ranger is #34 Leody Taveras, up from #47 before the season began.

Dammit.

I really hate this team. And now I'm seeing they are interested in first baseman Chris Carter, a strikeout artist to add to their bigass fucking strikeout total.

Sigh. This team sucks.

Turned the Rangers on last night and it was they were already down 6-1 in the 3rd inning. They're making it hard to be a fan this year. Good lord what has happened to their pitching?

I switched off the radio tonight after yet another loss and wondered if somebody needed to be fired for this. I never do that when things go badly for them, but I am wondering it now.

A different question is, is somebody going to be fired for this? I would imagine so.

We need to stop calling Cole Hamels the ace of the staff. The Rangers have no ace.

Last night was the ultimate nut kick. I fell asleep in my chair right after Napoli's home run put them up 5-1. I woke up as Chris Davis was rounding the bases to put the Orioles up 9-5.

My situation was similar. Parked the car and they had a lead. Get back in the car 40 minutes later and they were getting bitch slapped. Again. Dammit to hell.

Man, that was failed. Considering they got back PTBNL, I almost would have ridden it out with him and seen if they could have brought him back cheapish, considering this season seems like an aberration. Or maybe he just sucks now. He'll probably see an uptick in numbers in Coors and get a nice deal.

Go Dodgers!

Post subject:  Re: Texas Rangers 2017

Seems like a pretty thin haul for Darvish. Calhoun is basically worthless to the Dodgers because he can't play a position and projects as a DH. They were always gonna offload him.

A 19-year old pitcher in A ball is basically buying a lottery ticket and hoping. Brendon Davis might turn into something, but it's not likely.

Post subject:  Re: Texas Rangers 2017

The Dodgers would have mopped the floor with the rest of the NL with or without him. The Rangers had no leverage whatsoever. I'm sure they look at it as least they walked away with something.

Post subject:  Re: Texas Rangers 2017

If they were going to do it, they should have done it a month ago. The market isn't the same as a couple of years ago ... when the Rangers were buyers. :( I do agree the haul is underwhelming, but it's better than a comp pick.

Post subject:  Re: Texas Rangers 2017

:babyarm: True that, it just would have been nice to get an actual pitching prospect. Calhoun is worth little to the Dodgers, but it would have been great to get, say, Calhoun with Buehler. Failing that, you could have taken an injured guy like Brock Stewart or Chase De Jong. At least give yourself a shot at a rotation replacement.

We should have traded Yu for a dominant closer! Is John Wetteland still available? Maybe we could have moved Yu to the bullpen and have him close?!? /TSGHT

I won't miss watching "not exactly down the middle" balls getting past Lucroy. Man, that guy can't corral an errant ball for shit.

:D I'm never too far away. I know this was the smart "baseball" decision, but personally I think JD should have just paid the guy. He's a huge fan favorite, he didn't suck, and if we could get someone to actually hit the flippin' ball he would have won a few more games here.

Is he worth $30/yr? I dunno. Who cares? People love him and he genuinely seemed like he wanted to stay here. I'd love to see the stadium attendance and tv numbers with him vs w/out him. Merch sales, too. Surely there was an ROI for Yu that went beyond his win/loss record.

They can still pay him in the offseason if that's what they want to do. He wasn't going to take a discount to stay here. The only difference now is the Dodgers have a 5 day exclusive negotiating window, instead of the Rangers. But if they couldn't come to an agreement in the last year, that 5 days isn't going to make a difference.

He's not coming back. If JD wanted him he would have paid him already.

Jon Daniels looks like a genius for getting rid of Darvish for very little.
