I brought up Gallo just to drive home the point that it will take trading a guy on the big league roster to get a closer. How do we know Profar can play third? Are we assuming that because Brad Pitt told Ron Washington in Moneyball that it's easy to play out of position in the infield that it must be true?

Correct me if I'm wrong but Profar has filled in at 3rd and did pretty well.

Yeah, you're right. I thought he primarily played 1b and LF last year, but he played more at 3B than any other position.

But did he play well? 4 errors in 46 chances at 3B. Even when gam is half right, you can probably find something wrong.

Better than Elvis

Elvis had 17 errors in 659 chances.

Yeah well he had 1 error in 4 chances in the first game. That's 25%!

"Dominant Closer" just makes me want to vomit. Ranger facebook fan bullpen talk is the worst.

The proper way to assemble a bullpen is to get a bunch decent arms and throw them out there and see what sticks. If you paying more than 4 or 5 million for a RP you're doing it wrong. If that means you gotta cycle through some guys and blow some saves at beginning of the season then so be it.

Beltre's out indefinitely. Trade them all (not for a dominant closer).

This can't go on. When are the Rangers gonna spend some money and get some pitching?

Unfortunately, they get King Felix tonight, who is probably itching to mix in a win.

Hey, look at how great Toronto is this year. 1 and 8.

It'll be a good Friday if they can beat king Felix tonight and get to .500 :babyarm:

Getting to .500 would at least erase some of the poor start.

I like what the Reds are doing. They're not good or anything, but they used their "closer" (ie best RP) in the 5th and 6th inning on Saturday, because the game called for it.

I realize bullpen decisions are about a 50/50 proposition, but Bannister is hitting at about 3% right now.

Every year the whole team gets in a slump for a couple of weeks and everyone on talk radio goes on about how the sky is falling, Banny's just not getting through to the players, this guy may be washed up, that guy isn't such a good prospect after all... blah blah blah. The Rangers will pull out of the slump and in 3-4 weeks those same radio idiots will be singing everyone's praises and won't even mention how they thought JD should blow up the team only a month earlier.

Post subject:  Re: Texas Rangers 2017

I would like to see what they could get if they became sellers. Of course, Gomez, Napoli and Lucroy suck so bad right now, a trade for prospects may not even be worth it. Remember when everything JD touched turned to gold? Good times.

I'm enjoying the hell out of Gallo. I know he can't keep up this dinger pace but I'm excited. His babip is so low he could potentially get better!

Post subject:  Re: Texas Rangers 2017

:babyarm: I've been pretty down on him because of the K rate, but the SLG will offset it (if he can keep it up).

I don't see any overreacting in the 2016 thread.

Gallo now at 170 WRC+ and 32.5 k rate.

That will do

Don't worry about a nutkick from the Rangers hitters, though. They'd overswing and miss you.

Post subject:  Re: Texas Rangers 2017

If they feel they're out of it and trade Yu, then firesale this whole fucking thing.

I still have a small hope that Beltre and Ross can get this turned around, in time for Hamels to get back. But the Astros have been building this for years and that team is pretty stacked.

:bayarm:

I'm still holding out hope as well but man do they look in trouble right now. Even if their bats wake up they'll have to score 8+ a night just to have a chance.

Bad pitching, sloppy defense, hurt players, no hitting, worn out has beens... man, this team SUCKS.
